I'm concerned about WordPress users

Do WordPress users understand programming?

You need to be really crazy like agree to live for decades under the bridge like me or Terry Davis to do programming.

Definitely one of those professions where people get crazy!!! I heard it's construction done by head.

Me and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_A._Davis both had no customers.

Edit: I mean, if you just want to reach levels as coders. If you want to do coding + sales, your choice, but I'm not that corrupt. I won't just sell to anyone. I can only give away for free. All my black hat stuff should be open source.

You are no coder. You are internet troll ;)
If you would be a coder in Poland, you would earn $5k-$15k/m in corporation and even $1,5k-$2k as junior dev.
Sometimes I observe your "coding" threads full of chaos, weird words and overal their vibe is: "Look at me, I am coder"
It's like Linux users: "I am using Linux for 20 years you noob!"
For example you wanted to make new theme for BHW, not asked, you wanted to improve someone else business. But in this whole case, it was about getting likes from users, not to do theme. Admire me! :)

According to wordpress: it's magic tool for people who want to make money, instead masturbate to few lines of code.
I've made websites in Wordpress and in GatsbyJS for fun. I like I can set up wordpress in 5 minutes, set up plugins in 15 minutes and same day start to make money.
You can do the same in GatsbyJS in 10 hours.

For now you not shared any black hat or white hat stuff and you are telling about open source xD
Like I told "admire me", I want likes xD

I just heavily got into programming in WP, and I can say, as a basic user most of my life, I think it's great; you can build so much easy functionality on top of what a robust infrastructure it is.
yea, agreed. who says if you use WordPress then you can't add your own codes to customize it. wp is so robust even for coders.

I've been concerned for years about WP users, mainly because everyone seems to think it's the solution to absolutely everything. Oh, they got a plugin for streaming!? Awesome, let's make a Twitch competitor! Then they're all confused when it doesn't make money.

Just because it might work on a single server with 4 visitors at a time doesn't mean you're going to scale; and then there's always the inevitable "but it works!" person. Yeah? You really think so? Is that why you can't get a decent number of visitors? There's a HUGE difference between testing when you're a few hundred miles from your server vs the guy in India trying to connect to the POS dedicated server you got scammed into because "OMG! it's a dual Xeon with 128gb ram!" ... Never mind that it's so damn old that most companies e-wasted them 5 years ago and they're still using frigging SAS platter drives.

The thing people forget is "working" isn't good enough. You have to be better than the existing solutions. It's like look at kick, a Twitch rip-off, they barely get people because it sucks balls. It works, yes. But working isn't good enough. (yes, I know they're not using WordPress, it's an example) Until they have something that works better than Twitch, they'll always have some tiny website. Sorry folks, but WordPress is not the solution to everything.

There's a level of literacy to everything and so, if we are working with computers planning to do so long term, we can become more literate and if we feel like doing so due to passion for something, turn ourselves into more expert-level people over time. In my private opinion the very first level of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_literacy is that you're able to use your computer to write. Then you can use it to connect with other people. It's also a tool to get stuff done using other tools.

How do you use that efficiently if you can't even write a single script to change files extensions in your directories? You wouldn't survive in the 80s or in the 90s with this approach. There were few programs back then that allowed people achieve basic stuff without understanding basics first.

You might know how to add a post or a post category using a user interface in WordPress, but you don't really know how all that happens. It's like magic for you and that's what kids love - feeling magic to everything and staying behind might give us that feeling the world is magical. However, it's an impractical and an emotional approach to life. You will never satisfy your curiosity of how things happen and feed your wise mind if you rely only on readymade solutions. If you aren't curious, then I'd suggest some form of a therapy cause it doesn't sound good.

i don't really get this. WP is just a tool like any other framework, library, etc. i can code... doesn't mean i have to write my own http library instead of just using requests/niquests. doesn't mean i have to roll my own backend to serve an API instead of just using FastAPI/Flask. likewise, i can hand-code a site or i can just use WP/Django/etc. i can roll my own UI library or just use React. imo what's important is your time vs money. this kinda thing is like getting bogged down in what kind of scaffolding to use for a building instead of getting the building made, the doors opened, and business going. reinventing wheels for the sake of reinventing wheels feels like engineering masturbation. i prefer to focus on building using whatever tools are available so i can get to the goal of project completion asap.

Your concern is appreciated, but I think they are knowledgeable on what they are doing.

Talk to people who built Google and planes. I'm out of this discussion as I see the level of skill in this discussion doesn't exceed what I knew when I was 13 year old. Being a greedy bastard has its drawback that one day you may not notice how other greedy bastards may use one's greediness to their advantage. Basically a lot of people get wrecked with their own "weapon". A lot of those tools are weaponized against you - the "free stuff". Nobody does free stuff. Free stuff that does everything for us is usually a gateway to hell, but hell lasts for ages like 30% of your lifetime or your whole life. You won't feel consequences of certain decisions immediately. You need months, years and sometimes you realize that when you die.

With languages like Python and libraries such as pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow, you can do some serious number crunching. This is huge for businesses looking to gain insights from their data or implement predictive models. WordPress plugins just can't compete here.

Need to automate a complex business process? A custom Python script can interact with APIs, databases, and file systems in ways that a WordPress site simply can't. Sometimes your business logic is too complex or unique for off-the-shelf solutions. Writing your own algorithms allows you to implement exactly what you need.

When you need to squeeze every ounce of power out of your system, nothing beats low-level programming. Think C++ for computationally intensive tasks. For complex visualizations or simulations, you might need to use OpenGL with C++ or Python, which goes way beyond what's possible in typical web frameworks.

Yeah, you can use Ahrefs to get data, but you'll be operating on vanity metrics which is basically lying to yourself and getting yourself stuck with bad computer data. It doesn't work in black hat space, so you can just quit black hat and go straight to white hat, cause there's not much black hat you can do with just tools. This is a freelancer and a white hat website for the most part. Most black hatters just laugh in the corner. I post for some reason. Probably just cause I'm processing stuff at the back of my head and I'm waiting to construct some concepts together. Like a background task in my head...

And so I can only tell you to reduce a number of dependencies, decoupling every possible function, not extracting functions and think of owning the code. Cause as long as you intertwine your code with someone's else stuff, you're just burning money unknowingly and making those corporations even stronger. But that's how they work - they give you trojan horses. Gone are the days when trojan horses were just some little viruses. Today it's in people's heads. Procedural programming style is powerful for marketing automation domain and I have no doubts about it after writing in many different styles.

I use WordPress because:
It's easier to get a professional website with lot many extendible features in quick time.
It has a huge dev community behind it and is updated regularly.
Great for client websites where you can charge for maintenance too with minimal efforts.
Great for personal projects too.

And also scammers who utilize it to create 10000 backdoors daily to websites, then they come around and speak of "I'm a parasite SEO player. ;P" What a smart approach to business and life. ;P

I'm not working with clients, so I can tell you what I've observed as someone who focuses on my own stuff instead of clients. A client is just a bonus for me.

I worked on about eleven projects in my life and what I noticed that each time the WordPress was introduced, it's what gets hacked first. Once you get out WordPress, hackers don't touch your website as hackers use automation.

Basically PHP landscape is a little bit... not full of good practices like Java Spring for example. Java Spring with JWT tokens is a challenge to hack if a good person works on it. It's not best, but it's far more better in terms of security.

For 4 figure clients I can do a little copywriting. Maybe a package of 30 emails...

Everything that's built on open source is vulnerable.
A huge portion of clients have basic requirement & a budget.
I don't have a count of the number of projects I have worked but there have been 5 instances where the project was compromised.
3 of those have been due to the hosting company 2 OpenCart, 1 WordPress.
1 was due to client getting hacked on his pc 1 month back when trying to look for game keygen online, this was a WooCommerce store.
Minimal setup with least number of plugins and any good top level theme is generally safe.
PHP is a mess as it's easier, cheap and has a huge market.
Be it a budget client or one with good budget my projects always involve opensource tech PHP, Node, JS etc.
Laravel has done some justice and raised the standards in recent years.
I was into JAVA but due to the global recession as a fresher couldn't find a job in JAVA here.
Someone suggested PHP and it took me a month to learn it and get a decent Job.
And then my dive into SEO and marketing made sure I will never upgrade my programming skills.

Any type of programming requires specific mindset to get shit done, so you don't get lost. And that's where the problem is - with wrong tools that don't match your mindset / style, you will get wrecked. It's all personal stuff and domain we're working in.

And then my dive into SEO and marketing made sure I will never upgrade my programming skills.

I think engineering / programming can be a great long term passion. It can help you build nice businesses and rank them / market.
You don't necessarily need to be a coder, but more like an architect of solutions for business / customers.

WP users are geniuses when you compare them with shopify or wix users
Who is Bill Gates then who wrote his own computer systems. Or Steve Wozniak who built his own devices?

Well, I don't know how to compare innovators to people who click stuff on sites. Different leagues and levels of thought.

That's actually a good question.

Most of my websites are WordPress. The only reason for that is that I need many websites running at same time without time for make the website from scratch. It's way faster to buy a theme and put someone to configure the pre-configured rather than creating one from zero.
All of them can work fine with Wp structure, and most websites will do. I don't see any need of changing or developing one purposel.

Hahaha completely agreed! Couldn’t have said it better.
