You can start with WordPress and use a page builder like Elementor to build something beautiful with the help of templates

Use a good supported theme with wp, that you think does most of the heavy lifting. Then customise the theme and add plugins to make everything work more specifically how you want. WP is the easiest solution to create and expand with.

If you want to learn about web development sure, otherwise I wouldn't waste my time with that and simply install wordpress and a good theme for whatever is needed or use a page builder for wordpress.

You can do both ways.

It's important to define the target of your website project. For example, if you want a static informational website, HTML and AI can easily create it.
WP would be a better choice if you need a CMS like WordPress and dynamic content like blog posts.

I wouldn't be surprised if most code is written by AI now. I've used ChatGPT a lot for coding but moved on to Claude since it has better results for programming, it writes 99% of the code and I just keep refactoring it with prompts.

AI does not have deep enough knowledge yet. It might be able to write a few lines, but it isn't at the point where it can debug a complex integration involving many different services

If you don't know the basics of HTML or website building, then don't use AI.
The debugging and publishing processes still exist. AI isn't going to buy a domain name, hosting, and definitely won't publish your content for you unless you code it yourself.

Suffice to say, if you are brand new to it, define your goals. Do you want to shit out articles using AI and be able to mostly automate and manage it?
Do you want to build company pages? Blogs? Just landing pages?
From what I see, you're going to have to learn a little bit of both WP and AI.

It depends upon the type of website you want .

If you

1) JUST want a simple static landing page , then AI can help you build that .
2) Want a simple website (multiple static pages with informations) , you can go with services like WIX.com
3) Want an eCommerce website you can go with Shopify

4) want to learn and create dynamic websites , you can go with wordpress*

*Wordpress allow you to build any type of website (blogs , ecommerce etc)

True, I tried to have it make multiple files at once and it was pretty useless. But writing single (rather simple) functions works really well for me, though I have to refactor it a bunch and still gotta put it all ogether myself.

I wondered if there's already a way to feed an AI a whole large codebase and have it work on it or if that's something on the horizon to work soon.

That's the dream. For bigger applications, the input would be huge. For example, it would need to understand how the following things interact:

• The database, what tables are in it, what constraints the database has, what SQL variation, etc
• The caching service, same thing as database - it needs to understand the data types
• Any external API's and services. It needs to understand the messages to send, and responses to expect, how to handle errors etc
• It needs to understand the networking of your system. Which services are running on which IP addresses, on which port?
• If the model generates something that doesnt work, does it know how to read a 1500 line stack trace to find the one single line that caused the error?

Once your AI or whatever can understand that stuff, then maybe you will be able to generate something useful. I think we're a long way from that though

if you don't want to spend time learning these HTML, CSS, JavaScript languages. then the option to make a website on a constructor will suit you, for example, I use Webflow, there is also an opportunity to immediately insert the code and Chat GPT will help with this, if you can't do something yourself. 80 percent of the site there can be done by yourself, if it is something automated, for example, then you will already need a programmer.
