there is no top domain for SEO, google doesn't care which TLD you use (except maybe for .xyz, I've heard some people say that .xyz is usually used by spammers, so google might give it a slight penalty. But otherwise all TLDs are equal SEO-wise)

I'd prefer com because I'm an old soul and I'd prefer it that way. I don't think there's data to support that one TLD is better than others anywhere, except for geo specific sites.
You'd have a hard time ranking in spain with a co.il domain, for example.

For real projects that are brandable, I like .com.

For projects related to tech, marketing, seo, etc, I like using .net. Dot Net is actually my preferred for personal projects that I care about.

.Org is raw information, chararity, school, or some other form of organization.

I only use .org or .co when no other choice is available or Im buying the domain for a PBN/Backlink.

All domain extensions are basically ranked the same. Though different extensions maybe treated differently according to geo-locations. This does happen always but a lot of the time priority is given to sites with a country code TLD extension when a search is done in that country. This doesn't happen always but it's there.

As a matter of SEO, all domain extensions can be effective when used correctly. There's a reason .com, .org, and .net have been around longer and are more familiar to internet users, they're trusted and established.
