Reddit is definitely growing in importance. Reddit posts can easily rank on page 1 of google results within hours of being creating without backlinks or anything. AI companies want to use its data to train their programs, this will increase pressure on Reddit to fight spam even harder. However brands paying users to advertise them isn't new, but is definitely growing as Reddit grows.

Depends on what would you like to achieve. Private targeted subreddits can be great way to control and convert people without risking your subreddit get reported by random people.
