[Announcement] Introducing: The New BHW

Status
Not open for further replies.
I was kindly invited by a moderator to post my solution here.

So for everyone hating new theme, here is solution:

https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/fix-for-bhw-design-and-themes.1595920/

Closing the thread will make it a bit harder to branch off from the official thread and making our own changesets I guess.
As the moderator invited me to discuss my changesets here, guess I could suggest you check this https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/fix-for-bhw-design-and-themes.1595920/
The canned response some of the moderators are using direct members back to this thread to share their comments about the change. I believe the moderator intended for you to share the comments regarding the new theme rather than the plugin you created.

I can see the post the mod made was amended about 20 minutes ago to clarify this.
As per the announcement here, can you keep all comments about the change in the official thread so we can manage them more efficiently?

You've not been asked to do this by a mod. Any issues that this raises will result in infractions against your account.

Thread closed - please post any further comments - ideally with screenshots - in the official thread .
For everyone else, please keep your comments on this thread about the new themes. As I've mentioned before, the design team goes through these posts, so staying on topic means they'll be able to review your feedback faster.
100% there should be something making Jr.VIPs, Jr.Exec much more different than standard and premium user.
Currently problem when new user visit BHW, he have no clue if Jr.VIP is better than Elite Member or Exec give more value than Premium.
Reaction scores should be also there. 3 lines are not bad.
We have then clear message if user is serious, or some newbie registered 1 month ago created 100 posts.
I mentioned in another post that I received word that the design team is reviewing the reaction score feature.

In regards to the usergroups, how do you feel they could be differentiated further?
I want my browsing experience TO HURTTT.

PAIN!! IS MY MOTIVATION!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves for now
let's fix the color schemes so by the EoW, there won't be a case action of BHW blinding people
True. My attempt to help the community was closed down, although that was only a tweak - joining in, testing it, and going collab with other members would lead to a better design as we could adjust the settings and see how it changes without the need to modify forums' source code or themes.

Then the designers could take final product and chose what they want to implement or what to ignore.

So mod asks me to move my discussion to official thread and then threatens with infraction for me mentioning that i was asked to move here, it confuses me a lot.

The message behind both was received loud and clear tho, I will respect the staff and stay out of this.

Examples from other forums

1. Nickname on avatar from second example is great idea
2. "2 years of service" from first and second example is AMAZING idea, not registered date but this badge, can be used number
3. Badge "Premium", "Jr.VIP", "Jr.Exec", "Admin" I would take from first example and connect it with avatar without any margins. Non ranked users, no badge
4. Totaly resign badges "newbie", "member", "elite member". "3 years registered" or "1 day registered" would be much better than any standard rank
New users coming to this forum totaly don't know what is Power Member, Elite Member, Junior Member. Even I don't know what are tiers and what is bettter.

It's simple "if / else" to see if someone is registered more than 365 days to use then years

Something like that, instead credit score make Reactions score:
Color palettte of course totaly different, I presented only what I think about that box

Man what the hell. You take these forums seriously. I recognize some of these...

They mostly get replies to threads like "vouch", "thanks" etc.

Even admin has kitten avatar.

wtf is this music player

I don't care, they have interesting box for user
I not mentioned these forum because it's again BHW terms. I show examples.

Also, this "red thing" looks so unprofessional, destroying first impression for new members.

It's indeed pretty weird that they chose red for CTAs.

Very much signals "Do NOT press here".

Not sure if they're doing some sort of A/B testing for CR or what was the idea behind that.

I'd like to see more 'positive' (from color psychology's view) colours here.

It means "press here".

Green means "press here".

Grey means "don't press here".

Red means whatever the context says.

You simplified it I think.

The issue with popularising third-party client-side themes is that it will most likely lead to more issues, such as the popular usage of themes that impact functionality of the forum (which members would then complain to support about) or the typical security issues that could arise from any third-party extension (phishing, security leaks, collecting information, etc.). Your dedication to improving the forum for the community is truly appreciated, but ideally we want to be able to make the forum design as suitable to everyone as we can manage, rather than have members rely on third-party extensions. That is why we are listening to feedback and making changes. But please bear in mind that everyone has different opinions on what is perfect for them and we can't cater to all tastes.

Those are interesting suggestions. Those designs have a tad more cat cartoon images and lightning effects for my taste, though. :D

Seriously, we do appreciate your suggestions and the design team will implement is taking all of this feedback in to consideration. I can't guarantee any changes in particular, but they are always looking to make improvements.
Even admin has kitten avatar.
Hey, don't say that so loud. @Echo may hear you.

I know the idea ;)
-"boss, look what button I've made, nice"
-"amazing, put it somewhere"

But instead of joke, that red one Sign Up is not ok. Doubled functionality from header menu. Everone know where is register button in bb forums. You don't need add red button there ;)

I agree. I wanted to show only the elements positioning and idea to resign from standard users badges to "years" or "days" registered badge
We don't need to show here that user is "Elite Member". We need to show if he is Premium, one of VIPs or Staff.
Because now all ranks are mixed and new commers don't know who is who.

Design is good and has nice QOL changes, but the colors are horrible and very eye straining, please do look at MUI dark theme recommendations.

Yes, color psychology on CR isn't as black and white as most think and very much depends on context.
Red CTAs can very much work, if it aligns with the brand.

A good portion of my business revolves around CRO, and my biggest client currently has been a multi-million euro (annual revenue) bakery. Helped them increase CR on B2B contact inquiries by 370%.

In my limited experience, the red sign-up button in this context/branding just feels odd.

Though, I'm not a fortune teller with a crystal ball nor do I have the data on what the actual performance is, so what do I actually really know.

It just still feels weird, for me at least, to press a red button to do any actions (such as posting this reply) on this forum.

@sscaz don't you just love the new White Theme ;)

@DD & Jamie
A consideration, I understand about needing consistency and the color branding that was preserved from old theme into the new BHW.
A possibility to tweak it while still maintaining that consistency.
Moving around some of the color schemes such as switching the dark gold (6a552f) to Lighter Gold (c2ae70) in some areas and moving white ones over to Dark Gold etc.
Such as the following

View attachment 343010
But with a bit more tweaks like, Red in Forums such its the area Im at.
My name in White instead of Black.
No gaps etc between the name and inbox.
Potentially even keep the subheadings (Live Feed, New Post) theme and implement it into the What's new/New Post area too for consistency.

Vs Original

also for consideration
The popup for quote/reply, use the lighter gold as opposed to the darker one.

The underline under them is nearly non-existent and im already 110% zoomed in.
Probably a much better option to have the number lit up as Gold instead.

Long post (like this one) shows empty white space.
Instead, maybe our avatar and metadata View attachment 343020should slider along down with it
No. Big Fat No.
This ain’t no shopify store.
Who gave you permission to do this anyway. Bro Put the old design back.
Go find a flyer or something else to play around with. Or at least design something and let the community vote before you actually switch it up.
Your colours are completely off putting.

I thought this was a community?
