Yeah for sure it is, but why wouldnt you just get hostinger or something like that. It will be a lot of better option for you and your website.

However, it's a relatively low number for a web 2.0, so I'm not sure what the average life of such a subdomain is.

In the long term, I would say, only if you are just starting and you want to learn new things as a newbie, other than that, if you have to start with some free sites as Deleted member 752298 said, start with WordPress, it's easier to get indexed [still not easy as it uses to be], maybe Blogger, but other then this 2, I wouldn't waste my time.
