go daddy's privat domains

hey there - Im gonn buy about 20 > domains from go daddy. One of there bonus's is 'privacy' , which means you get a proxy for your site free -

this is what they said

With a private ("unlisted") registration through Domains By Proxy (our affiliate company), registering a domain name doesn't mean sacrificing your privacy.

I dont actually know that much about proxies on a website - do you think this is valid/ will work ?

also how do you add a proxy to a site ? is ther a WP plugin ?

also where's a good place to buy 20 > domains with paypal for about $8 or less

It sounds like you might be confusing proxies withprivate whosi (which GD calls domains by proxy hence the easy confusion).

Private whois keeps ur whois data out of the public whois databases. Its only free for the 1st year with GD.

Proxies are a whole other matter.

Don't go with godaddy. They're a nightmare to get your domains away from.

Look at resell.biz instead. They have good tech support, great prices and provide domain name privacy. You can pay with paypal and the prices are great (especially if you do a little bit of volume - I pay $7.25 per .com).

what are the potential pitfalls oof buying a domain from somewher like http://www.hostingdude.com/ for $1.99 -- - I cant see anything wrong with this if I host it with hostgator -- sorry Im just a noob when it comes to this

yw, just wanted to clear up the two different uses of the term for you.

csa makes some good points - I'm not a GD basher or fanboy, they have their uses but also have their downsides. csa is right that getting names out of GD is hard, but frankly most registrars make it at least somewhat difficult to transfer out. Part of that is trying to prevent fraudulent transfers, and part of it is that registrars are generally douchebags.

I'm not familiar with hostingdude, and in general I recommend being very careful with choosing a registrar, your domain name is a valuable asset...but in general there's nothing wrong with buying a domain from a registrar and then hosting it with a different company. In fact it's a best practice IMHO - don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Nope, you just sign up and fund your account. Definitely no requirement to buy bulk, though once you have put more than $500 into your account the prices get a little cheaper.

The problem with cut-rate registrars (the ones that are selling at below cost) is that after the first year, rates often go extremely high ($35 or more isn't unusual) and they're usually even HARDER to get your domains away from when you want to transfer. Often they'll want faxes, signed and mailed letters, even notarized forms. It usually costs more to transfer the domain away than you would have saved by going with a reputable registrar in the first place.
