Generally What is Better... Blogs or Simple 5 page Html Site?

Hello,

I am simply running a simple website advertising via Google Adsense and making about $15 a month. I was just wondering, what is considered better here if I am advertising just simply on ads alone for a product, what should I use... a basic 5 page website, or a wordpress blog?


Also, what is considered a better money making strategy, finding a niche market for something on ClickBank and such and leading the customer to that product? Or simply relying on advertisments?

I still think that a basic HTML site is more controllable, so if you know what you're doing, it's better.

If the website requires frequent updates, then a blog may be easier to deal with, not necessarily better.

Well, I am a web developer, but I've been reading up like crazy for the past few days about SEO and think I am going to try my hand at it. I've dealt with all sorts of websites, so either a blog or a simple website would be alright.

I have been reading that there is no way around quality content, and the best way to integrate that quality content is frequently via blog posts.

The integration of RSS feeds is a very good idea for both blogs and websites. This helps with the quality content.

Well you can say that comments increases your traffic of course it depends on how you use it.

The nice thing about blogging platforms, such as wordpress, is that they have a built in option to ping blogging search engines and communities that ends up bringing in extra traffic. You can also join a bunch of different blogging communities too to help promote your site. This can be effective if you have a news section on your blog where you cover recent news related to your niche. You dont even have to write much, you just copy and paste a few pieces from a news article and write a sentence about it.

Personally, i think the only big downside to using a blog format is dealing with the theme/template

The site needs some design, too.

What I find more troubling is the need of php, a mysql database and a much bigger load on your server.

blogs tend to do better in the search engines due to the fact that Google and all the other major players love blogs. plus, blogs are a lot easier to keep and update than a website in my opinion. also, blogs are also a lot easier for anyone to setup.

with that being said,niche websites also do well in the SE, but may take a little longer to get indexed, ranked, and require a little more effort to keep them ranked in the SE than blogs. but they are very effective as well.

my advice is to use both. setup a simple, clean blog on your niche website's domain and just link it to your website. you will reap the benefits of both if you do this. not only will the spider's keep coming to your site since(just update your blog once in a while), but your main website will have some good backlinks and will start to be seen as an authority site over time.

of course you will have to build some more links from other sites, not just your blog. but it's well worth it.

The problem with simple 5 page html sites is that some people tend to spend a LOT of time on making their HTML sites and designs perfect. IF you're not like them, than feel free to create a site like that, although personally I'd rather install a Wordpress blog in a couple of seconds, so that I can focus on content and link building.

If you are using Adsense for revenue, placement is very important as well, that will influence your CTR a lot, and in return, better profit. Also try playing around with Adsense Backgrounds, people have been getting great results with it

I recommend going with the blog. Here's why:

You get an RSS feed which you can propogate to get more traffic

You have elements of Web 2.0 (user generated content) with the commenting

It's easy to add a new page to your site you just make a new post

Blogs are considered more "trustworthy" than standard sites

Blogs are easy to make design changes - you click a button for a new theme and the entire design changes in 2 seconds

Those are just some of the advantages in my opinion.

a wordpress blog is way better, but its depend on your needs, since wordpress offer many mods/plugs you can use to make your website rich, it is easier and better from basic pages..

Wordpress blogs do get listed quicker. It's definitely easier to manage if you have more than a few pages of content. Plus it has all the plugins available and free pinging. Can't lose with that.

Although I have to state that I have more than a handful "one page" html seo optimized page that do more than a thousand per month.

So for me... Html for 1 - 3 pages. Wordpress for 3+.

What about using a CMS such as Joomla instead of the wordpress blog? Or using both for example www.domain.com and then www.domain.com/blog

I speak only from Joomla/Mambo/PhpNuke experience but it seems a little more powerful than just a WP blog, and with 1.5 out easy is an understatement.

USE a blog........stick your site html code in the header...yea thats right paste the body of your web/sales page at bottom of wp header.php

stick a free rss feed aggregator like wpomatic on blog....pull a relevant rss feed

= a website

with daily updating relevant content below it
