You probably doing it the wrong way mate. If your goal is getting sales rather than providing value to medium readers, you'll get ban not only in medium but in all other platforms. Look at the medium as a way to publish "quality" content and provide value not putting affiliate links everywhere in your post and push readers to click on them. They've already several guys who have tested and got result by following steps in the method and I'm still publishing content on medium and get rank without any problem.

So "help" rather than "sale". Do it the right way and you never get into trouble. )

Definitely a good result in terms of indexing, however, it is clear that from here to generating traffic there is a long way.......

That's great. Taking action is the best thing you can do to test a method.
Yea, this is a long-term method and it takes time but keep in mind that the result (income) will be long-term as well. When more and more of your posts stands on first page of Google, you get more and more traffic on a regular basis.

I followed YOUR steps from your original post. Line by line just to test if it actually worked. The only thing I changed is not linking directly to amazon but to a site I made for book reviews. After talking to medium support, according to their guidelines, you can link directly to Amazon but you have to advise the reader using a discourse that you might receive commission if they use your links. You left that part out of your steps. That's a good way for a lot of people who are using this method to get their articles banned as well.

Yes, you're right and using a discourse is a clear step in putting affiliate links not only in publisher sites but even in your own site. Anyway, if you link to a LP, you don't need to do that in Medium and if you check the previous messages, you see that other members are getting result without getting banned.
Also, the rules of BHW does not let me to edit the thread 30 minutes after publishing, if I could do that, I would add images to the thread first then add that discourse section. Anyway, there's not a perfect method in universe and I just shared what I've personally tested and what worked for me.
