I have 217 BTC, what do I do with them?

Good questions.. Very good questions.

It definitely won't move to the other top 20 coins though. I'll explain why before answering the first question.

What you have to understand about bitcoin is where the intrinsic value of it comes from.

It comes from the technology its self. It's not necessarily that "everyone chooses to use it". That's a requirement, yes, but it's not where the intrinsic value lies. It's more of a consequence OF that instrinsic value.

The intrinsic value comes from :-

1) It's got a hard limit. This has been something that's been really hard to do with assets traditionally. It's why gold has been a popular choice. Many socieities in human history used a variety of things as a store of value which at the time were limited.

One example was the Yap islands who manufactured huge stones called Rai stones.

Their idea, and it was light years ahead of its time was that energy and money are interchangeable. Money is after all and exchange of energy isn't it? All money and all assets are energy. It's just conversion of energy.

If I have a farm and I grow potatoes then I had to put my own energy into the farm. I'm essentially converting biomechanical energy into another form of energy in the form of a potato.

Now, the other key thing is the *thing*, and by *thing* I am referring to any type of asset, money, food or object. The thing needs to have some value for other people. If a thing doesn't have value, you are wasting energy.

If potatoes were completely useless, I am converting biomechanical energy into potatoes, but the potatoes have no value. Imagine they're not edible and have no other use. So I have just wasted my energy. If I continue through life wasting energy, I will die. I am outputing more energy than I can get back in. I need energy to re-fuel my biomechanics. At the simplest level I can hunt. I convert what biomechanical energy I have available, into an even more abundant form of energy. Meat I can consume. I consume 10 points of energy, and I can 50 points of energy. If for example, 1 meal from a hunt will fuel me to hunt 5 more animals.

Now, fortunately my potatoes that I've grown have value to you.

You don't know how to grow potatoes, and you're fucking HUNGRY.

However, you are a woodworker and can craft furniture. You convert your biomechanical energy into another type of energy which is a chair. That chair is ENERGY. The amount of energy it is depends on how useful it is.

All monetary energy has energy based on how useful it is to other people, or more broadly other beings that can convert energy in a system. (If you want to expand this more universally, and even in the animal kingdom there is energy exchanges through natural systems)

My potatoes are monetary energy.

Your chair is monetary energy.

The exact value? That's determined through our individual exchange.

I give you 25 potatoes per week for the next 4 weeks, and you give me a chair.

You consume those potatoes, converting the energy into biomechanical energy.

I use my chair to chair to rest, to work, to do whatever I need to do with a chair. It enhances my life giving me some net energy positive.

For those that have a lot of excess energy, they may swap energy for visual things like pretty objects which can be made from gold. This is why gold has always been valuable/useful. People like pretty things. It makes them feel good looking at it.

Back to the Yap islands... Now we hopefully understand how all money/assets are energy.

They realized this..

Now, one of the other problems we have is when we're trading random objects it's very hard to build up and store wealth. We need an easy way that we all agree upon will be used as an exchange of wealth, so instead of you giving me a chair, I can accept some object, which I can then store and trade later.

Because I might not necessarily need a chair today, and I might not need something YOU have, but you might need my potatoes, Jim in a nearby village needs your chairs, and I need Jim's labor to help with me my farm. It becomes then very hard to trade and convert the monetary energy doesn't it?

So this is why we need some "token", or some "object".

Now, if money is energy, then this object needs to be related to energy.

Creating US dollars requires almost no energy. You can print print print. It only works through a central organization(the fed) controlling the money supply. This is not good.

What the leaders in the Yap islands did was they came up with this idea to use "Rai stones" as money. These Rai stones were HUGE and took a long time to make. Thus solving the problem of flooding the market. It took years to build them and they maintained ownership through an oral history. Which, if you think about it is kind of like bitcoin.. To change ownership of a Rai stone, it probably wasn't enough for 1 chieftan to say it's changed, they would have needed consensus. They would have had their own rudimentary form of estalblishing consensus, which is at the heart of all crypto.

Things went wrong when Europeans with more advanced tools created them and tried to trade using them. The market was essentially flooded and they became devalued.

Now, back to point 1.

Bitcoin having the hard limit of 21 million means no one can ever flood the market with bitcoins.

This solves the 1st requirement we need for a token or object to represent money, value, or ENERGY.

2) It should be decentralized

This is important so no one can control anyone else. If it's not decentralized you are at the mercy of another party, like the Fed, the banks, the system and the governments.

3) It should be secure

You don't want something that's not secure. The Rai stones were too heavy to just steal, so they satisfied this requirement.

The more secure the better, and bitcoin is INCREDIBLY secure and has over a decade of history proving this.

4) It should be easy to transfer ownership.

If you can't change ownership easily, you can't trade. Bitcoin makes it easier than any other object in the world to transfer ownership. We could trade bitcoin with any amount we like in the space of 30 minutes with the 2 of us being anywhere in the world.

These are, at least what I can think of just now the key requirements for a store of wealth, money, assets or ENERGY as it ultimately is.

Ie, bitcoin is digital energy.

Potatoes are food energy.

A chair is a furniture energy.

Digital energy is more useful than food energy, because food energy doesn't last, and furniture energy is clumsy, not limited and not easily transferrable globally..

Once all these things are satisfied, and the more that people realize they're all satisfied, the thing can then become widely adopted.

Not all cryptos satisfy this requirement, and not all are meant to.

Doge for example has an infinite amount to be mined. It's not meant to be a long term store of value. Ie, a long term store of energy. 5 billion doge per year can be mined.

Doge is more useful for converting bitcoin digital energy to doge digital energy and trading it. This is a good thing, and it keeps people trading in doge. It's better to do active trade in a currency that inflates because it keeps the pool of available tokens in the market high and people trading and not hoarding.

Doge is meant to encourage energy movement.
Bitcoin is meant to encourage energy storage for later use.

Now, bitcoin is the one that the world chose.

In 2140 once the last bitcoin has been mined, people won't stop using it as a store of value. It still has the same use.

Your first question you asked won't the value stop going up when there's no more to be mined.. You've got that backwards.

The less there is available, the higher the price goes. Think about it, what's happening with bitcoin now? Every 4 years the mining rewards are cut in half, and this causes supply to decrease and price to go up.

It's not the other way around. If you flood the market with bitcoins, the price crashes.

So all that happens after the last bitcoin is mined, is the supply is even more limited, and the price will continue to rise as demand for it increases. Rising prices cause demand to increase more as people continue to trust that it's a store of value/energy.

If I farm for decades, I want a way to capture all that energy and store it for my future, or for my family after me. Until bitcoin it's hard for me to capture that energy for future generations. Now, with bitcoin, everyone can capture their energy and store it safely.

The world isn't going to suddenly sell all their bitcoin and buy another crypto that's both less in demand, more volatile and has inflationary properties. :) That would be utter madness.

The world will keep pumping their energy into bitcoin, and THIS is why the price of bitcoin will keep going up forever. It's the accumulated energy of mankind.
Solid points, agree on it. But why would Fed let go of their easy printing machine? There can be constant bans/regulations/laws updated which can mess up BTC holders especially in western countries. Plus I assume you didn't count on wealth gain tax which would highley likely in future be taken out of net worth instead of on sale for those that have hordered lots of BTC. And not mention hackers being another risk factor. And fact that most CEX/DEX and Cold storage wallets offer no coverage for your coins if hacked. CEX kind of have fair change of compensation of full hacked capital since they are profit making businesses but other 2 ur on your own if got hacked

What can the fed do to stop it?

It would be foolish of the US gov to go against it now. There's too much demand for it and other countries won't ban it. It would be like banning AI and letting other countries advance while you stay in the stoneage.

Wealth tax.. That's not really got anything to do with bitcoin. Wealthy people have been increasing their wealth for 100's of years. Why would the wealthy people that run the government go after themselves?

Hackers aren't a risk factor. You can't hack bitcoin. It's not possible.

To change bitcoin you need to control 95% of the mining power. That's just not possible.

Imagine the current mining power is 1000. If you added another 1000 mining power, you still only control 50%. So if you have the ability to match the total global mining power of bitcoin, you still are miles away from being able to hack it. If you add 8000, which is 8x the current power of the total network, you'd still only own 88%. You would need to add 19000 mining power. NINETEEN TIMES the current global network power, to reach 95%. That's impossible unless you're an alien with external power.

If computers get faster, then all the miners get access to that same speed. Quantum computing? It's not an issue for a variety of reasons, but even if it was, why would only the hackers have access, and not the miners?

cex's can be hacked since they expose the wallets to external systems.

A bitcoin wallet cannot be hacked.

You use a device like https://ngrave.io/ and you backup your wallet address on their engraved steel plate. You have a uinque front plate and blank back plates. You engrave with the front plate and then you store 3 copies of the back plates. If someone gets the back plate, they can't access your crypto. They need the front plate. If you lose the frontplate you can order another if you keep the code for it. You can store the front plate in a bank deposit box.

It's ultra secure. Hacks are a result of people being sloppy.

If you think it's an issue for you, then go for the blackrock ETF. Blackrock are not going to steal your money. They aren't going to do a rug pull. It would put the world into an economic collapse if they did. The entire global system would collapse overnight. All banks, all governments, all systems.

I meant the wallet that hold your crypto can be hacked.
Ngrave still uses the weak seed phrase based system to generate wallet. Which can be hacked and literally get spam emails on my website with ads from these hackers who will regen ur wallet on their own cold wallet device they have bought from same brand by brute force guessing seed phrases using tons of high gpu computers and if balance is there they take it

I've never heard this "weak seed phrase" thing you're talking about.

What makes it weak?

You can't regen a wallet. You need the private key.

You cannot hack a private key. A seed phrase doesn't change that. It's just a mnemonic. And anyway.. ngrave gives you a key in hex, not seed phrases, but you can convert between them. It doesn't change anything.

Share a source that shows how seed phrases are weak and can be hacked.

I will leave any country that tries to impose a wealth tax .Wealth!=Income

Hmm them giving a HEX would be better since harder for hacker to use wordlist to get it right by brute force

No this is not a hack. Its clickbait.

A friend had 22 of the 24 words so he helped him brute force it.

He had 4 mil combinations to check.

To do it from scratch its 2^128 combinations.

Thats 38 zeros.

Its almost as many atoms as there are in the observable universe.

No hacker can crack this.

Bitcoin is absolutely secure and so are bip39 wallets.

The ngrave hex is the same as 24 seed words. They are interchangeable and both 2^128 combinations. It is the bip39 and it is secure and unhackable.

If tech increases we will have moved to a more secure wallet system before then but we are NOWHERE NEAR close to being able to brute force 2^128

As I said he is WH and kind of a script kiddie compared to real hackers

So I kid you not what he shows is being done since 2022/23 and now become a saas of sorts lol where they spam blast people asking for payment and split profits for any wallets they get lucky on so they can cover their GPU/electrcity costs and make better profits with smaller downside

No, bro, listen to me.

You CANNOT bruteforce 2^128 and he did NOT do that. Watch the video carefully.

His FRIEND gave him 22 of the 24 seed words. He only had to guess 2. Thats 4 million instead of 2^128 tries.

I was a hacker in the 90s. I know what im talking about. “Real hackers” are not what you think.

This is a clickbait video. Watch it CAREFULLY.

He even said and i quote.

“Theres a problem, if my friend messed up a 3rd word then theres a 180 billion combinations and his funds are gone@

He couldnt even bruteforce 3 words let alone 24

Seriously?
You should just hold. And if you have a problem with taking it out for Tax reasons I can help you with that.

I understand this may give a feeling of safety/comfort but truth be told it is only a matter of time till they crack the seed phrase, since as per those services I mentioned it is fully automated and their machines are running 24/7 non stop. And His tiny cpu did 4million combinations the real hackers literally have several GPU's interconnected and I9 processors on all their computers. So give them 1-2years and they can easily get lucky with your wallet eventually. If they have method to bring down number of words to be guessed they will use it if they are going after a single specific wallet. But since they hitting randoms to get lucky it doesnt matter and they are getting lucky since 2022/2023 and probably this year even more lucky as they would have made more progress.

So more time that goes less secure it is for your wallet to be having coins in it. Unless it is using seedless mechanism

That doesn't make sense.

"seedless mechanism" doesn't make sense.

A key is a key.

You can brute force any key. Whether it has words or not.

It doesn't matter if it's decmial numbers, hex or seed words. They are only representations. It doesn't change things making it words.

And "real hackers" don't have several GPUs and an I9 processor isn't going to do jack shit against a 2^128 brute force.

You aren't going to crack it in a couple of years.. What part of "there's almost as many combinations as there are atoms in the observable universe" wasn't clear? :)

Let's do some calculations here to put this into perspective and to see how ridiculous it is to think a few GPUs and some i9's will crack it.

Also, it's not 2^128. It's actually 2048^24.2^128 is 12 word seed lists, not 24.

2048 possible seed words and 24 of them in any order.

That's 2048^24

Converted to base 2 that's

2^11 = 2048, therefore, (2^11)^24 = 2^(11*24) = 2^264

Now, let's convert that to a number, just so you can see how large that is.

29642774844752946028434172162224104410437116074403984394101141506025761187823616.

That's a big number, right?

Do you think some hacker is cracking that with his I9 and some GPUs?

Let's try to put this in perspective for you.

If you had the computing power to try 1 billion combinations per second..

It would take you 94,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years.

The universe is 13,800,000,000 years old.

Starting to understand the craziness now and why I'm ripping my hair out here?

The guy in that video did not crack it the way you think.

His friend had the 24 words, but it wasn't working..

The problem was

1 of the words he used twice, and the other word was stick instead of sick.

https://medium.com/@johncantrell97/...ics-in-30-hours-to-win-a-bitcoin-635fe051a752

This test used 12 word seed lists, with 8 of the 12 known, so you only needed to brute force 4. That's 1.1 trillion possible tries.

His macbook can do 1250 per second. So just for that little game it would take 25 years with 1 macbook.

He then rented a more powerful machine.

A 32 core from Digital Ocean.

That did 8000 per second.

Using a 2080Ti he was able to do 142,857 per second.

Ok, let's compare a 2080Ti vs some more modern chips to figure out how many per second a better GPU can do.

Remembering, more expensive GPUs aren't that much faster, they just have a lot more memory.

https://lambdalabs.com/blog/best-gpu-tensorflow-2080-ti-vs-v100-vs-titan-v-vs-1080-ti-benchmark

So even a V100 is only a little faster..

Let's assume all 2080/3080/4080 level cards are similar.

So.. we've got

Call it 143k per second per GPU.

1 billion divided by 143k is 6993.

Awesome.

So if said hacker has 6993 GPUs, it will take him 94,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years.

Cool!

So, for him to crack it in 9.4 years.. Which is a fair time.

He needs!

Drumroll....

69,930,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 GPUs.

That's one RICH hacker.

You could probably search the entire universe and not find that many GPUs.

Let's put that number beside the number of estimated atoms in the universe.

69,930,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 GPUs.
10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 estimated atoms in the observable universe.

Oh wait, yeah..

Ok, so, you need more GPUs than there are atoms in the universe.

This hacker is IMPRESSIVE.

Now, do you still think that some hacker with his shiny i9 is going to crack a 24 word seedlist? Or a 12 word for that matter?

And once more..

You are NOT understanding seed phrases.

They are a REPRESENTATION of your private key.

It is no more or less secure than the private key. It's just representing it with words instead of numbers. It takes the same time to brute force one with or without a seed.

Where your understanding has gone wrong is that people say creating seeds is less secure because of HUMANS in the loop. They write seeds down on paper and the way they store them is less secure.

That doesn't make sense.

"seedless mechanism" doesn't make sense.

A key is a key.

You can brute force any key. Whether it has words or not.

But who said hacker needs to brute force all those combinations?
Plain luck can get them a wallet with balance as more and more users start using crypto
What they are playing is probability and chance at this point with max speed of brute forcing they can so some unlucky person's wallet can get hacked as per what I said initially

"seedless mechanism" doesn't make sense.
It does currently few technologies already in market but still not perfect or there yet to get real security

The odds of winning the powerball lottery is 1 in 300 million.

There are around 100 million crypto wallets.

The odds of guessing a correct wallet is

Do you still think a hacker can get lucky?

American Lotteries are safer than the latest hacking method from BHW. :(

Hacking is not allowed here!! He's trying sound smart but all he has is clickbait video. Damnit

But if you have 24 random words and enter them into 100 million wallets, you might get 1 wallet. It's 1 in 100 million. If those words match one wallet.
