Penalized / Sandboxed

In the last 2-3 weeks my site dropped off the SERP for most keywords it used to rank for and now sitting on the 2nd or 3rd to last page of the SERP for most keywords it used to rank well for.

However my site is still indexed, and it also ranks #1 for my URL (without the .com as before it had disappeared for a few days)

I have been building links (around 300 in 2 months) and i guess google may have penalized me for it.

I have once again started doing some SEO articles and link building despite this because I heard that people just wants to make sure the site is still getting new links. I am also adding on my homepage, an authority outbound link to a wikipedia article about the subject of my site .

Can someone please offer some words of advise for me, I would really appreciate it!

You wont have been penalised for 150 links/month. You didn't do a link exchange with anyone did you? Put someone elses spammy links on your site?

Failing that changing a page title or description will see that page drop out of the serps for a week or so.

Probably just a google dance, keep building links and content.

Hi thanks for the help, no there was no exchange. My site is a web 2.0 startup so we try to keep it very clean and professional.

no I don't think it is sandbox and also google don't penalize for building many backlinks in fact I think you haven't built that many backlinks. I would say google just try to figure out waht position your site should be. I think if you continue to build links you will return in even stronger positions. Good luck

That is definitely good to hear, and I have heard several others say this before. I will definitely keep building up more backlinks and try to come back stronger than ever!

I have a site that has been ranking #1 on google for a competative keyword for months. Out of the blue last week it dissapeared and appeared on page 5 or 6 behind some poorly written garbage articles on the topic (I had done nothing risky or out of the ordinary for my site). This week it's back to #1.

Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason for SERP movement and it's just a byproduct of google's constant algorithm recalculations, testing, and assesment of rankings.

Same thing here.

I have a site that stopped getting google traffic on Apr 15th. So you arent alone. I wouldnt sweat it. Just keep doing whatever you do. You'll be fine. If your site didnt appear in google at all, I'd be worried.

Update: STILL RANKING BADLY!

I've added a link to a wikipedia article, done more Blog posting/articles, added a title and changed text density on my homepage. (before i used the Keyword too many times)

I've added a link to a wikipedia article, done more Blog posting/articles, added a title and changed text density on my homepage. (before i used the Keyword too many times)

Just a couple of thoughts, firstly I would have a link coming FROM wikipedia to your site not the other way round, you can edit an existing wiki or create your own and add in your link.

Also I would run IBP over the site or find someone who has it and ask them to produce a report for you. This will give you some clue about what you need to do to rank higher.

As for backlinks, I am using Scrapebox and I add about a hundred backlinks a night so I wouldn't think you have been sandboxed.

Thank you, I do have IBP and I havent ran it in a while. As far as a WIKI link to me, I have tried it numerious times, but these lowlifes keep removing my link on Wikipedia (saying its self promotion).

I put up a site a couple days ago based on the VGIIc Strain, and within a day Google had my site as first results for vgiic strain, vgiic virus, vgiic deaths, etc., and 7th result for vgiic. Today my site has magically disappeared from search results, but the URL.com is showing (Cached at least). I have 4 backlinks to the site, that's it. One outgoing link to Google News. Nothing out of the ordinary, so who knows. Just be grateful you're still getting results at all. Seeing a site disappear from Google sucks.

some encouraging news... Using some proxies, I was able to see my site ranking top 10 for some keywords earlier today, but now its gone again.

Definitely a google dance in effect here, i hope next week my site will start showing up for good!

Update: My site has returned to position #7 (better than before) on the front page yesterday, and has been there since!

I have read the same thing happening to several people that were sandboxed. They all continued their SEO efforts throughout the period and ended up in a better position than before the sandbox.

Great news, hope the site sticks!

I've seen sites build 150,000 backlinks and still not get penalized for it.

Probably just temporary, good luck!
