So 2 days ago I had a funny *brain lag* mistake during a business call. Im currently on a journey where I make money by investing in Real Estate.

I started to build another business relation with one realtor, young fella with 2 years of experience, but seemed cool and felt like this could be a useful relation in the future.

He wanted to get exclusivity and sell one of my current apartments I have. I was not very happy to give it to him since it would cost me like 3% and I know I can sell it on my own.

The benefit was that I would be getting into some "investor group", that is offered apparently by the company he is working in and getting deals before they get to market.

Well, he called me 2 days ago again to try getting my apartment to sell and propose his offer. Now a little backstory, sometimes I record important phone calls to share with my business partner and to be honest to not miss important details and improve my business speaking abilities. Nothing serious, but yeah.

During this call, I had it all under control and in one moment I got friendly with the guy, and he proposed me interesting offer so I said: "Thanks for saying that, it's a really interesting offer and luckily I am recording the call, so I can share it with my business partner without missing anything and potentially come back to you and work together.".

Anyway, the guy got upset and uncomfortable. I apologised and said I would delete the recording if that's something he doesn't wish for. Then the situation went from "him wanting to sell my apartment" to "I need to think if I want to work with you guys". And after a bit more talking back to "Well I met you in person, I know you are a cool guy, so I think we can work together. Wanna sign offer with me tomorrow?".

And here is a thing. I know I screwed up, brain fart and I said some stupid shit. I talked with some people about it and got various reactions. Some are like "And what? People record calls, whatever". Other are like "Im not surprised the guy got upset".

So now Im wondering about next steps here. While working with him might bring some benefits... I am not sure if killing of a business relation after that might be a better approach, since he might have in back of him mind that he can't fully trust me. Maybe a better way is to ditch him and ask my anonymous here business partner to approach a different realtor from this company and build relation from the start to get on that investor list.

So! What do you think about my screw up lol? Do you think I should just ditch this relation or try fixing it and keep working with a guy? How would you feel if you were told in the middle of conversation that it is being recorded, but not for anything malicious xD

Too much ecstasy during business call? :D

We too young for this shit.

Maybe ask basstrackerboats.

I would think "okay, he's trying to get good" and talk to you about why you do that. And you'd tell me you're trying to get better. And you just learned to keep your mouth little bit more controllable.

One fck up doesn't destroy relationship. It takes 15 of them.

Meet them in person and explain face to face if possible. Maybe say you don't have much experience and such. You're just starting etc. And say next time you'll make sure to be more explicit.

Don't be too apologetic. Don't meet them just to tell them that. That'd be awkward. Try to do it once you have something to do with them. Put it nicely between other words.

Try to make a joke off that. It's hard to send sense of humour over internet as nobody knows you here exactly.

Good point! Yeah, I guess knowing that someone you don't know well is recording is weird. And you might be not sure why I was doing that. Anyway, sucks to make such a rookie mistake. The thing is I was not sure if I wanna work with him in the first place. But once I screwed up, I feel like I lost all the advantage I had to negotiate his rate. I don't want to give him work just because I fucked up. On the other hand, I feel like if I don't, it might be tough to come back to him later with another apartment. Well, we shall see. I gues we are all humans and fuck ups will always happen.

I did way more crazy things than this.

I have "yellow papers". That's basically official statement I have mental health disorder.

I did act in such aggressive ways like crying baby. And I do this under high stress if my basic needs aren't met. And it happens every now and then.

People are more forgetful than we think.

I did that in two apartments. After a week these people didn't even question me. They just focus on the moment.

If he isn't crazy and is collected like an adult, he won't hold any grudges.

It's rather on you if you go easy on yourself and keep going.

That thread looks like harsh exaggeration that happens in every mind on this planet. Better be aware of that psychological trick.

I don't see anything wrong, this is all a miss understanding, what you can do is assure him that you won't record any other call, people don't like to be recorded because they love their privacy and some personal things could be stuck there, just keep it normal and you don't need to justify what are you doing to keep other happy but if you feel you need to explained what happened on the meeting let him know if you can record it because you use it as a log to remember key points on the deal instead of write everything a miss some information because sometimes you can write what is happening and you do it so you can remember what was said in the conversation for only bussines purposes, in case you want to explain your self but go normal as nothing happen.

I wouldn't bother, there are too many opportunities out there. Don't let this be something that defines you, find another 5 useful relationships by other means.

You see, you are depending too much on the guy. That is "oh no, I absolutely need this". Don't do that, if the opportunity is ought to go, let it go.

If he works with you, okay, but don't be too enthusiastic about it. That's an advice I would give myself.

Obviously you're wondering about your chances with this guy. Only you can evaluate whether you need this business relationship. From this, you can learn not to reveal information that could make others uncomfortable. Whether the other person agrees to have the call recorded or not will depend on each person's personality. You cannot control that, so 1 is not to say it, 2 is to ask at the beginning of the call

I'm not surprised he creeped out, I'd too. You should ask for permission before recording, it's the law in some countries. Even on some video call apps you'll see this automated message about call being recorded and you can leave if you don't agree, same when calling corporations.

Re-read your own post. You didn't really want to work with this guy. I'm amazed how many people here know what to do, but come over here asking if doing the opposite is the way to go.

Thanks :) You are right, I already have more relations with various people in this industry, but not many bring money yet. I feel like I don't wanna miss on any chances. Maybe thats not the point.

Yea, I guess its more about privacy and feeling free to talk whatever without being recorded. Total screw up and misread of situation on my part. I already accepted that I fucked up, but yea. Still wondering how to approach it in a long term.

Well, I was not sure if I wanna work with this guy on this specific apartment. But there might be some benefits from engaging in this relation in a long term. Also, I added that post just to hear what others think and a bit for fun for people to read if they want to. If I knew 100% what to do, I wouldn't make a post tho.

For now I decided to just wait and see if he calls again. Than figure out the vibe and if it is worth moving forward here. If the call doesn't happen, whatever, keep going and creating business relations in other places. If the call happens, I might give it a shot if I need to. Don't want to make business decision just because I feel bad cause I did something I shouldn't lol.

Any legit business person will not get upset over a recorded business conversation and will not call off relationship if they got nothing to hide
If they are even UHNW people they will politely ask you to delete it if they deem it a violation of privacy or company secrets and if you don't comply send you legal docs via their lawyer to do so

All existing shades of yellow, not just yellow. This says everything about a lot of your comments.

Meaning most of my posts revolve about showing how to "actually make cheddar using proven business tactics" and not "create fantasy journeys about insane cheddar with random methods".

These could be viewed as controversial as they don't show "promises and golden nuggets" that exaggerate matters of singular properties and actions. Actually they tell you what's up and how complicated systems might look like in practice.

It's basically realistic look on many things from perspective of old good black hatter.

I love my comments. This tells me a lot. I feed myself and ofher people with my outlook. So helpful, right.

Why even think about it? If you are confident being able to sell the apartment on your own and save the 3% commission, just do it. Or find another agent who wants to make money.

Well, since the hardest part of this business is getting apartments for a good price, you wanna build good relationships with people who have those offers. Most offers sell before reaching the market. There is a chance that this company contains such deals for their "investors". And making this deal might give me the access to that "investor group". That being said, it might just be some shit list and not much to buy there. Its a bit of a gamble, but might be worth a risk. So I was worries about the whole fuck-up because of potentially losing opporutnity there to gain some more apartments in the future. But tbh. overthinking it. There is ton of opportunities and it's not dependent on relation with one specific person.

Being a VIP isn't easy. You see now. You got to act serious in serious business

Write down a list of things you would like to correct and think about it in spare time. Also write down replacements and reasons to change.

You can start from "overthinking" and make a plan on paper by breaking it down.

It's an exercise. It'll rewire some neurons.

I'll make mistakes forever and will fix them forever.
