1. Which platform typically performs better in SEO rankings, WordPress or Shopify?
2. Are there any Shopify apps that are particularly effective in helping a Shopify site rank faster in Google?

That shouldn't be a big difference as both frameworks can be optimized. If you choose WordPress, make sure to choose a lightweight WordPress plugin like SLIM SEO or The SEO Framework.

I'll always be bias to wordpress, lol. I use Shopify before but that monthly payment, I can't be bothered. I'd rather use Wordpress.
