Hi,

I heard that a YT short video must be 1 minute or less in order for YT Studio to recognize it as a short video.
So, I'm making all my short videos in less than 1 minute.
But, is it true?
If the short video length is more than 1 minute, Studio automatically recognizes it as a long video even if I created it with a 9:16 ratio.

What I want to do is create a video little bit more than 1 minute, so I can upload it to both YouTube and TikTok.

Your input is greatly appreciated...

A lot of creators face this problem and until and unless the company themselves change this limit, there is nothing you can do directly. But that doesn't mean you are totally helpless, you can always find a workaround like people did with twitter. The character limit was 140 once and was then increased to double but even before that people found ways to link tweets using chaining or simply by uploading pictures.
You can do the same by either chaining the videos and creating a playlist or I have also seen some creators, they simply speed up their videos to be able to accommodate more content within 1 minute. But this again depends on the type of videos you are making.

Hope this helps!

it must be below one minute or it won't be recognized as shorts, even if you used 9:16 ratio.

I would go for 30 seconds max, because otherwise, people might skip it.
Own experience

Under 1 min = short
Over 1 min = long

Yeah, but people's attention span is relatively less; that's why TikTok started with 15 seconds.
I did some tests on it, and at least from my perspective, I can say that over 30 seconds is too long. There might be a difference if you grab the people's attention during the first seconds or with a fantastic thumbnail.
But chances are higher to get better KPIs with shorter Shorts :D

There is no exception to one minute rule. You have to follow the limit and rules of the platform to work there.

Why not upload the full video to YouTube and share a clip or link on TikTok, driving viewers to the longer version.

You can create more than 1 minute and keep it as still short video. You have to follow the limits as said by YouTube.

@spicymelon's advice was the best by far.

You gotta keep it to less than a minute for it to be a short. creating video chains or maybe part 1/part 2 type videos is a way around the limitation. learning how to edit down your videos is a key skill in video editing, tho

Your shorts must be below 1 minute in length.

You are not ready to even put efforts separately for both platforms. And want to work with same video on both, do not be lazy if you want to earn money online.

You can upload the same video on YT and tiktok but if it more than 1 minute, it will be considered as long video format on YouTube.

Keep it as short as possible, even 1 minute is long for shorts. You need replayability
