The one spam comment I approved (read this, helpful info)

This was before I knew about Scrapebox but I knew about spam and all that stuff and my whitehat high ranking site was getting hit with spam comments (this was prior to askimet). I used to go through each comment and approve the non-website linked ones.
But there was one that I did approve.
It was something along these lines:

"Hello webmaster can I use some of the information from this post if I provide a link back to your site?"

I approved it with the backlink and the owner got a whopping high PR backlink amidst all the spam. People that don't know about scrapebox will approve this comment and there's a pretty good chance of it happening.

I kinda agree with this.

Yeah man, you gotta be careful with posting things like this. People usually don't have any imagination, its officially about to be copied and pasted.

I wouldn't be surprised that this become ineffective in about 1 to 2 months (guesstimate), lets see how it goes! Maybe I'll be proven wrong!

Yeah blogs are now gonna be flooded with this comment - verbatim - but you know what? It doesn't really matter, it's not really the point. I just saw one of the default comments from sbox (one of the mp3 review samples) come from our old friend Gregory DeSpain today. The idiots doing this are in a race with the Cyrillic spammers it seems.

More importantly, and usefully, I'd like to hear from you OP about the thinking/psychology that led you to approve this comment. I can make some reasonably educated guesses, but I'd like to hear your response and thought process firsthand.

Hi OP! That's great, but as all say, please remove the text IMMEDIATELY!

As I see it in G, the comment (I don't want to mention the words here for obvious reason) is unique -- no copies --- yet! So remove the text and the ones who have read will understand.

Silencer, I got mad respect for you bro, but......

I think the guys requesting this to be removed have a valid point. I mean, this is an open forum, and once hundred of spammers start using variations of this (probely alot of new guys who will try anything to see some results in there seo), it may become ineffective in a few weeks.

Its one thing to say "yeah, everyone deserves this, stop being babys". But then again, its not YOUR comment or technique being posted either.

I'm pretty sure if this was something you had originally came up with, and everyone started using it, you may say "oh well its part of the game", but saying that dosen't decrease the pain of having something that use to work great become ineffective because of mass exposure.

Again, I think the guys saying that have a valid point. But as always, I could be proven wrong.

I'm STILL waiting on that to happen though!

I'm not against what you said, Silencer. It does not make me feel any good that I know it now but my other fellow BHW members won't know it later if the text is taken out by the OP. Of course he has good intentions in disclosing that, but think of the immediate results when so many would blindly write it all over the internet WITHOUT spinning. Those are real golden words used by the original poster and (s)he got real approval by the OP. But the next time the OP sees 10000s of the exact words on his blogs, he will lose the fun of having such great and creative use of comments.

Some things are never disclosed for the best for all. I wasn't selfish when I requested the OP to remove it.

Likewise, the most successful IMers do not disclose their brilliant methods of earning money and success. They may provide sufficient hints, but never the exact steps of their methods. Apart from other things, revelation takes out the fun of finding it for yourself. Creativity is at its best as in the case of those words, so let those words stay hidden. You may not agree to this, but this is what I personally think honestly.



P.S.:

The comment is too brilliant, so it can be, if need be, in a restricted area, for example, in the VIP. As you can see, I am not a VIP member. But what the heck, I mean, let this be one of those great things that deserves a VIP area. If I want to learn it, then let me pay for it. It makes the VIP area and the forum a lot more better. This will/may solve the purpose that like many great things, this is not free for all. It helps the forums and the members too. Just my opinion though.

I dont approve comments these days anymore, 90% of the comment dont even make sense, the other 10% is viagra spammers with their http://gyghggsu.com links which until this day I dont know what its good for.

But I agree with silencer, its not the actuall text but making something readable is the point of the OP

You know. I think I HAVE figured out why those viagra spammers do that random asdjkashdjka.com links as their comments.

See, they are posting random crap comments, then later, they check if that comment was approved. Someone would be crazy to approve that comment, so they expect that the blog automatically approved it.

Hence, they have a huge backlink list of blogs to spam that are autoapproved with their *real* links. They probably do this so their domains don`t get flagged so fast by akismet.

Sounds plausible to me, atleast that`s the way I see it.

Hilarious. I remember getting a variation a while ago from a guy who wrote "Hi from russia!" and then he asked if he could link back to me. I checked out his blog, and saw a flood of comments from people who wrote "Sure! You can quote me anywhere on your blog. What's it like in Russia?"

Thats right, the random domains etc is an attempt to get the link past filters so they can check links later to find autoapproved blogs. Good strat.
