Yes, I meant sidebar links, I'm not pretty sure why I wrote sitewide but that is what I meant.
all good! Both terminologies are correct, I just woke up a little grumpy
The sidebar links were placed at the niche relevant websites but I'm not really sure about authority since it doesn't have any traffics. It probably means I'm not getting much link juice then?
link juice / authority depends on backlinks, not on traffic.
Most of the time, sites with lots of traffic also have high authority too (because people link to those sites because they're popular, so they have good authority because of those links). But the opposite is not always true: you can have sites with good authority (because strong links are pointing to it), but zero traffic.
So, if you want to get link juice (which means authority, they're the same thing) you'll have to get links from pages that have good authority themselves. If you use Ahrefs to check the authority of the page you need to check the UR, if you use MOZ to check the authority you need to check the PA, and if you use Semrush... well, I don't know since I've never used Semrush, but they probably have a special metric that only analyzes pages instead of sites.
The thing with sidebar links is that - most of the time - they are not surrounded by content and google loves links surrounded by (relevant) content, which is why PBNs, guest posts and niche edits are usually the best links to have.
But if the sidebar links are surrounded by text then I guess they could be worth something (but I'm not sure as I've never cared about these links.)
Having / not having traffic doesn't impact the link juice, like I said, but having traffic is important because it's usually an indicator that the site exists to be a legitimate site (as opposed to existing for link building purposes).
If you had a choice of getting a link from a DR 30 website with no traffic or a DR 20 website with good traffic - and all things being equal - I would say go for the site with traffic (especially if the traffic is organic).
EDIT: One thing I'm really worried about rn is that by adding sidebar link it added like hundreds of backlinks from a single RD...
that's not a problem. All sites have sidebar links, if google were to penalize for this they'd have to penalize the entire internet
So you're fine, don't worry!
This part would be tricky, because I am currently working on building my own network, but still so far from achieving what I would want. Like, I don't have enough DR, ranking or traffic to justify using them as of right now.
tricky or not, it's how it should be. Owning and maintaining a PBN nowadays is brutally hard and expensive, which is why only the rich can afford it. Personally, I would give up on it, it will eat up all of your time, money and patience. Just buy 10-20 links from someone that's established and be done with the headaches!
I meant to say a month or two to see some change in SERP. Well, its going to be hella tricky since I don't have my own network. Still, I will have to find a good way to pull this off.
If the link is good and it gets indexed, and if your site is good and the keyword you're trying to rank for is not hard you should be able to see results within 2 weeks, so yeah, I think 1 month is OK.
But again, you need to index the links and you also need to point them to pages that have a chance of ranking (or to pages that need a boost in rankings from page 2 for example to page 1).
If you're going to buy / build 2-3 PBN links (even if they're good) to a keyword like "buy home insurance" for example.... yeah, I don't think this will work, some niches and keywords are way too competitive for any Tom, Dick and Harry to rank
PBN links are great (if they're done properly), but they're helluva expensive, I would say that you focus on guest posting and web 2.0s and other types of backlinks until you have a decent budget ($500+ per month for starters) to afford getting good links.
And the good news is that you can rank without backlinks initially and get some traffic (and hopefully some sales) that you can then invest into buying links, but you'd have to focus on keyword research and quality content to achieve this
Thank you very much for all your answers! I really appreciate it!
no problem
