I tip anywhere important, restaurant that i go to every time, my barber, bar that i go every time, postal office that i go to every time i bring hte ladies that work there chocolate and so on, results:
In bars i get stuff much faster than others and they always give me best shishas etc
in the restaurants that i go to i get food faster than people who came before me
in postal office they give me to come before everyone else even if i came late with escuse that i called them, same thing with barber..

I tip only when I get service at a table. Like a standard restaurant.
If i have to go up to a bar and order my own food and bring it myself, or i take takeout - no tip. Also this new shit where they leave qr codes to tip, fuck that. Tip amount is always change, regardless of amount spent.
Taxis used to be an exception as well, but now everythings prepaid before ride begins so i dont bother.

Tipping culture needs to go away. The employers act as greedy fucks and expect their employees to make a living off tips.
Good that it is not as prevalent here. I never tip anyone, only the waiters if their service was top notch.

I generally tip anyone in the service industry, I don't tip people in the medical office or office staff usually as they are usually paid more than service crew.

The restaurant sometimes add what they call 'service charge' to the bill. That is supposedly the tip they're collecting for their employees but I don't trust these greedy fucks. Law here permits us to ask the restaurant to remove the service charge. I do that and give cash to the waiter.

i do not tip anymore period. not 25%. not 20%. not 10%. everyone gets $0.
in my country, America, tipping is a discriminatory scam. it's terribly unfair, causing employees to have to pay their coworkers out of their own pockets sometimes. or being paid less for doing the same job as a coworker solely due to scheduling. or being paid less because maybe they had a shit day like we all do sometimes. or being paid less because they're a minority, or not good looking. these poor folks got to gamble for their paycheck, by relying off public charity when you get to the crux of the system. hell no partner. that's backwards as hell in 2024! i encourage others to stop tipping too if you're tired of it or, like myself, find the system abhorrent - it's the best way to get it changed. employers need to pay their workers fairly, or they don't deserve to be in business.
there are no consequences to not tipping. you'll get threats of "pay up or i tamper with your food", which folks have ingrained in their brains as you can see in this thread. it is exceedingly rare for that to happen, that nonsense is part of the propaganda to keep you tipping! since i stopped tipping i get the same service i always have and expect. in fact, better i'd say. when i still tipped i'd have servers hanging around my table like a fly on shit, interrupting my meal and my company constantly, etc - all with the expectation it means a bigger tip. now since folks know i don't tip i get exactly what i want: my order taken, food served, and one water refill. no annoyances. just peace and good grub. yes, i go back to places i don't tip at and it's never been an issue. let alone spit in my pasta.
"above and beyond" service in my experience is basic service. it's always basic service when folks in the industry try to explain "above & beyond". if you save me from choking on a piece of steak? i'll tip you. now that's "above and beyond". but i ain't paying extra for folks to do the basic job they took on. that's for the birds..

I generally reserve tips for those who provide good service and do not exhibit a negative attitude or try to coerce me into tipping. This approach particularly applies to my experiences with several DoorDash delivery drivers. However, when I am pleased with a service and feel it's appropriate, I willingly tip to acknowledge good service.

I do notice that in restaurants and bars, consistent big tippers get lots of favorable attention

Of course, always be good to the workers, this is going to get you far. While postoffice workers don't give a fuck to look for something or help people when they need help with something the old ladies working there always help me as i come and bring them chocolate when i come etc... Big chocolate costs me 2,5$ while i probably wouldn't waste 1-2 hours of my time in there either waiting or going aroudn figuring stuff out when they do it for free for me, this hs the power of being nice to workers.
