How much do you spend on seo per month? Is it profitable?

I've made a couple grand doing SEO consulting. But now I'm trying to build some authority sites and make money through affiliate marketing. I have 7 sites I'm building currently. None are profitable yet. But a few are starting to pop up in the SERPs.
