So basically I can achieve the same with custom fields and little PHP and ACF is mostly a no-code plugin for playing with custom fields, right?

Yes, if you know php and how CPT´s and custom fields work you don´t need ACF.

Interesting to see that a ton of people pay for Perfmatters.
I used to use it a little but it lacked a ton of features. Do they have CSS critical route generation? (I think not, but lately i cannot care less about WPO)
