Is a web development/design agency worth starting?

Hey BHW, in the last year I have tried multiple methods to gain some money online aside from freelancing and have multiple failures from which I have learned a lot from.

I've been having shiny object syndrome and have had a hard time sticking to one thing and I want to change that starting now. My current strongest skillset is webflow website development, SEO content writing, and website copy. I also have some experience in social media marketing/branding. I had success freelancing doing this but got caught up in trying multiple different ideas and never really capitalized.

My current idea was to focus on using the skillset I already have to make money instead of chasing the newest "shiny" methods. So my question to you guys is would it be worth it to invest my time into building a web design agency that offers a complete website written out with copy entirely as well as branding it on social media? I would have different payment plans depending on the exact services the customer needs and outsource as I scale but it seems like this business field is currently extremely saturated (which is not always a bad thing) but it seems like my unique selling proposition is widely offered.

Should I focus my time and efforts on something else that is going to be more profitable entirely in the long run?

My goal is to reach 10k a month from an online endeavor, I have the patience and dedication just want to focus on one thing.

I'd appreciate any advice as this community has been extremely helpful.

Start with marketing (black hat) and ask yourself if you can promote it as easily and widely as you would with other things we do here.

I found it's pain in the ass to promote. You would have to schedule meetings with potential clients and so on.

Doesn't look much different from being an employee of some company. Plus you have multitude of responsibilities. It's draining.

If you can run it by word of mouth and sell to people who have big bucks and no idea how cheap a simple website can be, there's some money. But that's something rare.

Doing it as a side job, where you have a guaranteed income from a primary job while you are building your client base is highly recommended. It is defiantly doable, but it will take a lot of work over several years to get to a point where you are actually making decent money running an agency

It's all about what kind of tiers of customers you can get. You can make same 5 page Wordpress website and charge:

Tier 1 Customer - $5000
Tier 2 Customer $2000
Tier 3 Customer $1000
Tier 4 Customer $500
Tier 5 Customer $250
Tier 6 Customer $100

If you can get higher tiers of customers you can do less number of websites per month to make your expected $10k/month. It is better to get 10 * $1000 customers per month than 100 * $100 customers per month.

If you can only get low tier customers you should stay away from web design and development as you would be competing with too many people trying to offer the cheapest prices possible. This attracts customers that look for cheapest price and you instead want customers that don't mind paying higher prices to get good value.

Targeting isn't just saying I want tier 1 or tier 3. You need to invest a lot more to get better clients. Your competition will change from freelancers to corporate or smth.

I agree 100% the issue is I am in a major city so the competition for high paying customers is insane, also looking at very local businesses around me tend to not want to pay much unfortunately.

Then it could be worth it, get some % sellers and aim for $2500-$3000 minimum per website at least. Give your sellers 20-30% they need to make money too if you want to keep them selling.

that's actually a good idea, ideally I would want to charge $5000 minimum as I can honestly give the client a very high quality/professional website.

Charging $100 per site is not viable, raising the price and go for other markets are a different thing, not what I was replying to.
