and what falls into obscurity? Which demographic decides what will go viral and what not? To me it seems like that if teenagers and young adults don't like something, it can't succeed. Am I wrong on this?

People say "find your passion" but what about the channels that are in a subniche, have polished production yet still fall into the void?

Can you find at least one famous person that his main audience isn't teenagers and young adults?

Whoever constitutes the majority of viewer part will decide. Most of the times it is young audience only.

Trends are often influenced by what people are interested in, current events, popular culture, and sometimes even by influential people or celebrities. When something starts to get a lot of attention and engagement online, it can become a trend. Digital marketers pay attention to these trends because they can help them reach and connect with their target audience in a more effective way.

There are some trending niches that don't have a lot of young audience. Any media factor can influence a trend.

You're right, but specifically it is the process of younger people growing up towards their prime, while people in their prime growing older.
It is through this slow and gradual process that a niche becomes an unstoppable trend.

Could also substitute younger people with newer entrants to make it more general.

A touch of luck and unforeseen events can sometimes propel content to go viral, but in an overcrowded niche, even high-quality content may get lost in the noise.
