My journey to building a massive website

Great journey and very ambitious
Wish you all the best
It is wonderful share. Great work.
WOW. This motivates me. I am struggling to make $20/day journey. Good Luck. I hope I'll be able to take steps like this someday.
Good luck
Thanks guys, will make a small update mid December.

Which network pays $20 cpm ?
It's not unheard of to get $30+ rpm with Mediavine and Raptive. It all depends on the niche, the audience and how you optimize your ads. I'm intending to translate the site into all languages so might not be able to reach as high but we'll see.

Guessing this is pSeo that you're doing

how do you produce contentt? can not find this part in your OP

This turned out to be an even bigger project than I had first anticipated. Might not be finished with the core site in time for new years but I'm getting there eventually. Having to rethink the scope of the site a bit, prioritizing the most important things first and saving the not-so-crucial things for later.

Anyways, this week the site got the first day with 50 clicks and 1000 impressions, well on the way to 1k organic clicks in December which is great. A bit worried the coming months will be more horizontal than vertical, at least until I can get more high quality links to the site.

Will be back with a small update this weekend.

Something like that yes.

I don't have content in that sense on the site, it's all just scripts running.

Good luck!:)
Very nice journey keep up the good work
Thanks!

Update

Here's a small update for the first half of December. Not sure how much time I will have during the holidays to update this thread and work on the project.

Still working on the core of the website, I'd say I'm about 80% done but the last 20% will take some time. Will keep working on it until new years and then decide if it's time to enter the next phase or if I have to keep working a bit longer.

Here's my GSC report for December 1-16:

Screenshot_2023-12-17-18-04-04-99_40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12.jpg

As you can see the site managed to get 72 clicks on the 16th. Well on track to reach 1000 organic clicks from Google which is nice considering the site is so new. If the trend keeps going up it might be able to push 1500 clicks.

Purchased a handful of backlinks in December, will buy a few more but taking it slow for now. The links I did buy I'm not very happy with. They were advertised as guest posts on niche relevant, authority blogs but some of them actually seem like PBNs.

Until next update

Next update I will post sometime in the first week of the new year. By then I want to have finished everything that has to be done before next phase. I will also buy a few more backlinks, not sure if it will have much of an effect this early though.

The next update I will report the whole of December, GSC as well as page views, time on page, expenses and all that good stuff. Hoping to see some even better numbers by then. Wish I had written down how many hours I've been working on this.

HI, any chance You could explain your approach to interlinking?
Do You use any plugins for that like linkwhisperer?
Good luck on your Journey, Please keep us updated

Sure. I link to a few different resource pages from the front page and these in turn link to all the inner pages. This is done manually, don't think link whisper would be of much use. There's no interlinking between the inner pages, might add that later on just not sure how yet.

This is a great journey but if I were doing this, I'd start with LOW KD (keyword difficulty) targets optimized using Frase or SurferSEO

After 6 months of just plugging away at 50 posts per month, I'd switch to targeting TRANSACTIONAL KEYWORDS

Totally no link building

Hehe to each our own. I actually only have one keyword but thousands of variations. I've done the old fashioned niche sites before but they get hammered very easily, hoping this approach will be a more solid one. I actually saw one competitor get annihilated in the HCU update but a few weeks later he was back, was a lot of spam on that site tbf.

I'd like to touch a little on the no link building mentality. I know there are two camps that are equally as convinced their strategy is the right one, either no links and quality content, or a major focus on links (usually spammy PBNs). I used to be the former, but over the years I've come to realize that Google doesn't give a shit about quality, or user satisfaction, but links will absolutely help you rank. Combining great user experience and high-quality backlinks is the only way forward for me, everyone's entitled to their own opinion :)

Interesting. What are you doing to avoid keyword cannibalization?
How do you structure your content?
Can't give away too much but the site is similarly structured to sites like numbeo.com, both in terms of content and structure. I'm just hoping cannibalization won't be a problem as my competitors have been doing the same thing for a very long time. That one might actually be a good niche to get into as well.

The first phase will last from now until the end of December. As the site is still very new I won't be focusing too much on backlinks.
  • Focus on finalizing all the main pages.
  • Build a handful high-quality backlinks from related websites, mainly guest posts.
  • Hope to get closer to 1000 visitors but we'll see what happens.
How do you intend to build guest posts for your site?

Entering Phase 2

Happy new years everybody! I'm officially done with all the core pages, well, there's still a few left but they are not as important so will do them a few at a time later on. With that said, phase 1 of this project is now history! What a great way to start the new year, and everything is looking good. December was the second month of this website, or the first full one. In the month of December the site managed to get just over 2000 clicks in Search Console, amazing!

Here's some stats for December. The 31st has not finished calculating so I cut it out, but it should land on about the same as the 30th.

What I've done in phase 1:
  • Got all the main pages up, still have some more to go but they are not my priority for now.
  • Finished the main script, or the MVP at least.
  • Got my first handful of backlinks to the site.
  • Redesigned the website.

Happening in phase 2

I've made a few changes to the plan I shared previously. I identified a few quick wins that I will have to prioritize in the coming months. Currently I'm only ranking for the 1 main keyword, same as my competitors. When I did some research I found another longtail keyword that will probably bring in 10k+ monthly visitors that my competitors are not targeting. I know that a potential 10k extra visitors is nothing when I have such high goals, but I'm going for the early wins.

So to start phase 2 I will work on implementing this keyword, as well as a paragraph for each page optimized for the Google snippet. Not sure yet how I will structure the snippet for so many pages but will probably create a template that is easily edited for each page while still not causing any issues with duplicate content.

Now for January and perhaps also February I need to focus on making the scripts better, the functionality is the whole point of building this website. My competitors have very outdated scripts and things change a lot in 10 years, so me having updated stats and scripts should help put my site on the #1 spot sooner. I'm also going to focus more on the off-page going forward, especially driving traffic from Reddit.

Backlinks I'm targeting now: A mix of high and medium authority niche-related guest posts, Reddit, and Forum backlinks.

Spendings: about $500 on backlinks, $12 on domain and $0 on hosting.
Earnings still $0

Nice growth , will keep you booked marked and follow along, good luck.

it seems like this thread will be a good source to learn, good luck!

Traffic is stable the first week of 2024. Looking at my Analytics I see a bit too many hits from Russia which is a big concern, knowing they don't count whenever I try to apply for premium ad networks, and they also don't pay for Russian traffic at the moment.

Once I'm nearing the end of the current phase I will start to translate the site into a few different languages. Will probably do this manually as I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on the Google translate API just yet, unless someone here knows a better way? Thinking of doing the European languages first, starting with the major languages and working my way down to smaller ones. This should help raise the traffic from tier 1 and tier 2 countries, watering down the Russian traffic.

Looks like we will be able to cross 4k clicks in January if the traffic stays like this, with translated content I'm sure we would be looking at 10k.
