Do you think tools like ChatGPT and Bard will destroy such calculator sites like

omnicalculator.com
calculator.net

The reason I ask is that I have been working on a similar site for a long time, while also blogging and adding such tools to the site. I've been spending my time and money on this project for about a year, but I'm worried about the future. Do any of you have similar sites? What do you think about their future?

after the AI craze goes away I think that people will start using calculator sites more than they use the AI.

For me, personally, it's easier to type "usd to euro" in a calculator than ask the imbecile bot "convert usd to euro". The only problem is that google already offers these answers right at the top, so - as much as you or I hate it - google itself is actually the biggest calculator site.

But yeah, to answer your question: I think some people (like me, who are pissed off at new technologies) will still use calculator sites, but the masses might not

I don't think. Those are LLM models, not calculators. Chat GPT have big problems with counting even simple things so...

Every site will be affected by ai soon for sure, the most important point for us is now. How well are we currently using AI to improve our own business? Instead of worrying, we should see this as a support for ourselves and take advantage of it. As the new generation, we will live for a very long time and have to change jobs tens of times, and we will retire late. Nothing is permanent so I suggest you don't worry. You will always be able to find a way to separate your sites from ai. Remember content creators. (They still aren't finished after ai launched)

I don't think AI/ChatGPT would replace them unless using these AI tools becomes much more easier and faster. It's already easy to use ChatGPT but these online tools are much more easier with less stress unlike chatGPT. ChatGPT also get's thingss wrong sometimes.

I agree with you on that. It won't necessarily happen in the next few months, but since Chat GPT, for example, has been accessible to everyone, a huge market for AI has emerged in a very short space of time that is virtually unstoppable.

sounds plausible and I have already had the same experience. However, you feed the AI with more information the more often you use it.

It's not actually SEO that I'm worried about. The ability of Google's artificial intelligence to instantly create such tools according to the user's wishes.

This stuff will be added to the default camera app, google lens, etc... It is going to get so integrated it's hard to maximize a niche

I have been using chatgpt so much since it comes out, and i can tell you absolutely not, AI is so an accurate with those calculations it is terrible, especially if you really know what you want and you dealing with calculations you are a professional with, and with the problem that it is recently floating on the surface that the internet is becoming filled with AI generated content and most of it is unaccurate, wrong, misleading etc.. that's the core data that AI is learning from whats make it even more unaccurate and full with mistakes.
So short answer is no in short or medium term, and i think you should make your focus target be the professionals more than normal users, good luck.

Absolutely not. Here's why:
AI (at least LLMs in IM) is a fad. Much like how everyone thought "blockchains are the futureeeeee". What replaced blockchains? They served some purpose, right? Simple databases. There's literally 0 reason to spend gigawatts of power for something to serve the same purpose as a database, which is pretty energy-lite.

But what about ChatGPT?

Right now, ChatGPT is like, actually at its worst quality ever, especially since they updated their dataset to something more recent. Either that or I suck at prompt engineering. But if I sucked at prompt engineering, why does switching to OpenAI API GPT-3.5-turbo-instruct solve all of my problems? I can think of a few reasons:
1. I suck at ChitChat. Turbo instruct is to take instructions, Chat is for conversation. No idea why OpenAI thinks people want Chat over Instruct. When I instruct a machine to do something, "I'm sorry, but..." is unacceptable. In Chat, that seems to be the most common response these days.
2. OpenAI is nerfing it.
3. LLMs will become outdated and inaccurate. Think about it. Since the release of ChatGPT, how much of the internet started using AI content? For every 1 human written article in 2023, there are at least 400 AI written ones posted online. AI content is really bad at training itself. So making larger LLMs is nearly impossible without mixing in a ton of AI content. I've tried other LLMs and the newer ones have the same problems as ChatGPT or GPT-4.
4. It's energy intensive. The environmental impact of LLMs is incredibly high compared to, say, an article spinner with grammar checker. I think a good article spinner makes better content than ChatGPT, at least, it did before ChatGPT was the primary source of content.
5. LLMs are bad at math. Machine Learning is really good at math, and the biggest competitor to calculator web apps is Wolfram Alpha and Google. Machine Learning also isn't terribly energy intensive, either. However, ML in math applications is not an LLM.

So to answer the question, no, ChatGPT/any LLM will not replace calculator apps. It's too energy intensive to run 1 + 1 through an LLM just for it to say the answer is 7 or something stupid. However, Google's rich results (which can include a calculator) and HUGE sites like Wolfram Alpha will make it extremely difficult to compete in the calculator niche. If you've got a feature that these calculators don't have, lean into that heavily.
