First short goes semi viral

Yo peeps

So I’ve just started making YouTube shorts, I am making good quality content and following what the top creators are doing in my niche.

I have made several accounts that have had the same sort of outcome:

First short - 30k views
Second - 4k views
Third - 2k views
Fourth - below 50 views and doesn’t seem to get any views from the shorts feed

My swipe percentage is usually great 70% viewed vs swiped away along with my other metrics which are also in line with “good quality content”

I am going to continue to make shorts on a daily basis but I’m just puzzled by this big drop off when my first 3 shorts always seem to do great

I have seen many videos on the “explore/exploit” theory that YouTube sends your video out to a small audience and then exploits if the audience responds well to your content

Just wondering has anybody else had a similar trajectory, most post I’ve seen are people complaining about 0 views to start with but that doesn’t seem to be the case for me

The thing that is puzzling me the most is that my first three shorts get heavily pushed into the shorts feed but the ones after the third only get traffic from channel pages or direct/unknown (me sending the links to other platforms)

Not looking for the magic cure answer but just want conversations with other NEW YT short creators…

What is your retention rate on the best vs the worst and what is the length of the best vs the worst videos

Best video has 77% retention rate and the most recent has 73% the videos that got a few thousand were also between 70-73% for retention so these figures aren’t different enough imo to be a tell tale sign that this metric is the issue… I could be wrong if the difference is only a few percent between a video being pushed heavily in the shorts feed

I have heard, posting only shorts can limit reach on a new account so that is what I will try next, although I see plenty of accounts my niche only posting shorts

That’s pretty good retention maybe try switching some tags, that’s what I had to do and it fixed.

5-6 shorts on the channel is very small number. You will get one viral after 100-200 shorts.

That is a really good start and as you said usually people always have 0 views but in your case you started with a lot of views, give it some time and should start pushing that content again just continue uploadingas usual.

I am aware. However the same pattern has occurred with several different channels I have made. I’m not asking to go viral, I’m trying to figure out why this pattern occurs and why after I’ve posted 3 shorts the fourth doesn’t get pushed to the shorts feed.

Also disagree with one will go viral after 1-200 shorts unless you’re posting utter shit.

@Mickydee have you considered that youtube might shadowban your accounts ? maybe you are using poor quality proxies etc

Yeah this is basically what I’m getting at… I don’t use proxies or anything like that I’m not making hundreds of accounts, I don’t think I’m making anymore account than a regular YouTuber would, I dont spam content, more or less 1 upload a day on shorts

YouTube Shorts expose your videos to a very diverse audience. It's different from regular video. Therefore, when producing videos, look at the channel's main age group and country and continuously test the content concept accordingly.

Do you post the same kind of content? Did you change the duration of the video much?
