Do you ever hit your competition below the belt?

The more I get involved with a SEO project, the more and more I find myself feeling pissed off at my competition for beating me to article submissions, or using techniques that I feel are slightly unethical, or... you fill in the blank.

I'm constantly wanted to turn in their spammy backlinks and stupid forum posts etc...

But that would just start an all-out war... How does the average SEO expert deal with this? Is it an unspoken rule that everyone plays nice?

How often are your links or whatever attacked by an adversary?

If competitors are making 5 new videos a week, you create 10
if competitors are making 100 bookmarks per day, you create 200
if competitors are spamming 500 forums per day, you spam 1000

Keep doing it, be an authority in the niche and you will beat your competitors all down the drain. Its like a race and the most dedicated/smartest person wins.

Seo is not "being nice".. You won't get top spots in google by pressing the F5 key on google analytics or creating a quality article that "magically" hits all frontpages of top websites. You need to work, and work hard.

This is a perfect example of what i'd consider "playing nice".

I wouldn't want to be the douchebag turning people in to the fuzz, but how often are adversarial tactics used in SEO? I

Things like...

- destroying competitor's backlinks by turning in spam posts to admins
- creating backlinks which they wouldn't want, with anchor text like "how ___ steals your money" or whatever...
etc.

Like i said, it's not that I want to be a dick and start bringing down my competitors, I'm just curious about this as I've never seen it mentioned on these baords...

I'll go after links in just about any manner providing the following;

1. It's not illegal.

2. It doesn't sabotage anyones business.

Simply optimise your site better than they are, don't try to sabotage them. Do some research and see where all of the links are coming from and then emulate all of them and find more high quality sources for your links.

There is a wealth of information on this forum and on some other forums so just do your research and take action.

Sabotage is LAME, try to learn and be better. You have to remember SEO requires time, if they're sitting in a niche for 5 years, it's hard to outrank them in a month time.
