I am working on a client's website that has been negatively impacted by Negative SEO attack. It started in June/July 2019 (coincidentally that's also when the client's ranking drops from 1st page to like nowhere in existence on top 10). In your experience, do you think I can recover these ranks if I disavow these links today?

Seeing quite a lot of pharmarcy pills anchor texts, porno links, which make up 25-30% of the backlinks. Or should I just start a new site?

hard to say, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But if you have no other alternative...

damn, that's bad! Just disavow them if you have the patience to wait for the effects to kick in and if nothing happens within 6 months start anew!

Give it a try and disavow those links and wait for 3-4 months before you come to a conclusion,
i dont think it will work but you can try it

Ok thanks for the suggestion. Gonna try disavow and wait 4 months.
Man this sucks. Literally the way to kill sites now is to buy negative services and kill them.

Disavowing never really worked IMO

Once I disavowed every link, and site still worked

I think disavow has always been a snitching tool to help them collect backlink data
Yes, I am sure, that 'disavow' is for Big G only to process big data and teach AI.

Try it for 4-5 months. I think it's still useful in 2023.

Tried it 2 months back, and reduced my domain's spam score from "19" to "6".

This is quite an interesting case study. You see, by default, Google ignores bad links and negative SEO attacks are factored into the algorithms in order to protect a site. More than often post 2020, Google will now actually award a site that has had a negative SEO attack in response to the attacker.

You see, due to the fact Google now automatically ignores bad links the only time you should ever use the disavow tool is when you receive a "Manual Penalty" or you have overoptimized anchor text. (using the same keyword too many times)

If you check Google search console and you don't see a manual penalty, then your rankings loss has nothing to do with Google slamming you due to this so-called negative SEO attack. It won't even be an algorithmic penalty.

The other thing to note here, the disavowl links tool does not work right away. Your disavowl file can take up to 45 days to get crawled. Each time you update or resubmit to the disavowl tool this 45 days gets reset. So only submit once every 45 days.

As Google is currently making many ongoing changes, especially since the October spam updates, I would be checking a few other things before settling that this was due to the negative SEO attack. You could have a new onpage SEO issue.

For instance, (just an example) if your homepage has more than 3 H1 tags, your rankings can tank or even get deindexd altogether. Is your rankings still holding okay in Bing?

No, don't start a new domain and site just yet. If you don't have on page SEO knowledge, hire someone who does to check out some of the technical stuff first, also, wait at least 30 days for the disavow to work and check search console for errors or issues.

Additionally, only use the disavow tool if you are a gun on this subject, more than too often people use the tool incorrectly and can disavow links that are actually giving you some positive SERP impact.

Feel free to send me a personal message, happy to check out the domain and provide some free advice.

While disavowing harmful links is a crucial step, the recovery process from a Negative SEO attack can take time. Disavowing those spammy links is a good start, but it's also essential to focus on building high-quality, relevant backlinks and creating valuable content. Monitor your site's performance, implement on-page SEO best practices, and consider seeking advice from SEO experts to optimize your strategy. Starting a new site is an option, but recovery is possible with a comprehensive and strategic approach.

Disavow the spam links and wait for some time. Also, build some high-quality links from the authority websites with diverse anchors.

who would have thought another data collecting tool

There are many ways the negative seo attacks are done which I won't discuss here.
Having said that are you sure spammy links wad the only negative attack your client site got hit with?
First figure this out.
I highly doubt spammy links caused the ranking drop.

Based on my analysis, it seems so.
40% of backlinks has "buy <some random pills" anchors and 10% with "Gay porn" "Gay Wedding". Seems like spammy links.
But I'm quite curious now what sort of other negative SEO attacks are there. I get that you won't discuss it - but if you can point me to the right direction (reading materials) I'll appreciate it a lot!

If there's no other choice, its worth a try
Usually, Google ignores them
