here's a guide:

In general, you want your backlinks to...
- be diverse (having only 1 type of backlinks screams link building and you risk being penalized. Just get as many different types of backlinks you can get, or check the backlink profiles of your competition and try to mimic those if possible)
- be both d0follow and nofollow. Again, having only DF or only NF links is bad for more than 1 reason: only DF links is obvious sign of link building and can get you in trouble, while only NF links means zero, or very little ranking power because NF links don't pass too much power (link juice, authority, etc) into your pages, so NF links are useless most of the time
- point to as many pages as possible (without diluting their power and thus making it hard for you to rank anywhere, of course), with focus on the homepage and on informational pages. Pointing them to the homepage helps building up your site's authority (DA / DR) which can help you rank for easier / long tail keywords in the future on authority alone, while pointing them to info pages is being considered natural by google because most people link to information in general, we don't use to link to products. I know that this will suck because you want to rank your money pages instead of useless info pages, but hey, these are dem rules! Of course, you can (and should) still link to commercial pages, too. Just not as often / much
