I'm currently working at a marketing agency. We provide SEO services to our client, however the number of content that our agency produce is only 1 article per month per client.

Although we always put content brief and keyword recommendations in our monthly web analytics report, it end up the most of client's didn't publish any new article other than monthly article we provide.

The traffic doesn't show any positive growth after several months, and my boss got upset. She thought the SEO team didn't perform well.

Should I focus on backlink strategy? (guest posting, forum posting, business directories)
Kindly give your trick and your opinion..

highly appreciated!
Thank you.

Q: Why you do not supply them more articles?
A: Because we (my agency) will charge them extra cost

FYI: my boss knows that 'content is king', I also told her that its very difficult for keyword coverage with only 12 article per year. But she insists, we can not use that reason to justify why the traffic growth doesn't improve. She doesn't really care about each traffic channel (direct, organic, social)....

Should I buy organic traffic?? Hahah

If your clients can't afford the cost of more articles, how can they manage to pay for links?
A single decent link usually more than an article and you'll need plenty of them if you really want to rely on SEO,
You guys are wasting both your time and reputation & your clients money & time,

You should ask the current customer(s) to pay more (+explain) for both articles & links if they really want to get organic traffic,
If they deny, you're simply targeting the wrong customers/audience,

If you're accepting to rank people websites and dealing with other business', you're expected to deliver results,
Get them to invest seriously, get your work done properly or don't deal with them at all

Offer them "value for money" with more articles - more content (FREE / Low Price), more social media links, more High Quality Guest Posts - cover more keywords in your SEO Packs

You should simply be honest with you client and show statistics proving Regular Posting 4-10 articles per month will have a better effect on there business. And that simply 1 post per month isn't cutting it. If there budget can't adjust to more than 1 article, there is no point in keeping that client as it will be close to impossible for any decent results.

The only thing here is, if the client is completely okay with 1 article per month and minimum SEO results, then no need to say anymore. Should verify with them first and have packages ready with a solid presentation.

I mean, since your boss knows that 'content is king,' how is it not justifiable that tackling high-ranking keywords in just 12 articles will barely achieve anything? Rather than spending money buying organic traffic (which will cost A LOT for each client you have), you should try to convince them to spend it on content.

It's difficult to offer them new proposal, as my boss doesn't want to hire freelance writer. She only wants the content to be handled by our in-house content writers (which only 2 people) to maintain it's content quality.

We are not a specific SEO agency, we just include SEO services in the proposal as part of our marketing activity, typically bundled with managing newsletters and social media management. The initial contract is 12 months, on the scope/delivery section it's already written 'monthly article',, on some clients even 'quarterly article'

I can understand and appreciate that but if you (personally) want to serve your customers with the best possible services (in your control), you should explain everything to your BOSS and modify your proposal(s).

Are you en employee or the partner of the company?

Thank you! I agree with your solution.

My main problem is not from client's side, - some of clients don't give us feedback after I suggest them to publish more content frequently - its from my boss who really expects positive traffic growth, so we can make the client happy when they receive monthly web analytics report

Yeah, that part (changing my boss perception) is the hardest part, because from business perspective the cost will be higher for client, and we need to hire new content writer.

I am an employee,, I am in charge in SEO, paid ads, linkedin post management, and newsletter performance.

If your boss is willing to cut profits to generate more content, thats a solution. Content writing can be very cheap if done right.

Also, proposing to the client more articles for better growth, faster ROI, etc... thats what I'd do first, it won't hurt. Unless the client was sold thinking that 1 article per month was sufficient, this could prove a headache.

@pipinsama I have two simple advices for you -

1) I have merged 4 of your posts into 2. So please use multiquotes feature in BHW to reply more than one comment at a time. Watch this video to learn how to do it - https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/how-to-use-the-multiquote-feature-on-bhw.975670/

Failing to do so may attract post count inflation warning.

2) It is tough to convince the boss who knows that content is a king but still sticks to in-house writers to produce 'quality' content.
She is providing only 1 article a month, and expecting a growth in traffic, it is beyond my understanding!
It takes very little efforts to find couple of quality freelancers who can provide best quality content at half the cost of in-house employees.
Try to persuade her to hire some freelancers and see if she agrees, because that is only best solution I can see here.

Thank you! Will be more aware from now to use multiquote.
Also thanks for the second advices.
I think this thread can be closed now.
Hearing from everyone made me sure that I'm not doing wrong and something need to be change with the system & the way I persuade this agency, especially the boss.

I'm glad that I have access to this forum and ask opinion from others.

Yes, SEO services are available with only 1 new article per month. Depending on the services you are looking for, an SEO provider can tailor a package to best suit your needs.
