broad match is what i use, but you must realise if you keyword is play poker online
it will also show results for any combination of this query so when using key verbs, be careful when using broadmatch

so, for example i have "win her back" with seoc 49000, seot 200 and 100 searches under broad. do i go for it? will i be able to rank for it? or, do i have to do something more?

100 a day sounds nice, but you should throw that on exact to see how many times "win her back" actually gets searched...

Pretty basic really.

Broad match - contains your keywords and relevant phrases.

Phrase match - user searched for that exact phrase. ex. "keyword xx xx" or "xx keyword xx".

It's good to take both numbers into consideration, unless you are targeting very general or 1 word search terms (never a good idea for kw research). Phrase match will give you a more realistic picture of actual search volume, but they are still only estimates.

This page explains it very well

Code:

This what I do:

use a seed keyword and get the top 10 for that keyword. (seo competition tab)

go to google keyword tool and input each one of these 10 domains and collect all the keywords in a text file.

input this list in market samurai, and analize them. (keyword research tab >> add keywords). don't hit "generate keywords", just the one at the bottom "analize keywords"

pbr: 15
seot: 20
tot searches: 70

seoc: 50,000/40,000/30,000

broad

if looks good then i click "exact" to see the numbers.

I got burned with a domain, purchased, build page, build links, gain first page and no traffic... in broad shows 18,000. exact: 29

good luck :)

You have to go with broad matches. Are you already ranking currently for the broad match? If yes, you should try to gauge your competition with the broad match keyword to see if you can beat the others.

Do not build a campaign based on exact searches. PPC is better for that. I did a campaign once that had 22,000 broad searches a month but exact were just 2,000.

Again, go with PPC for exact phrases especially if they are long tailed keywords.

Thanks people I appreciate all you help.

So, now I will leave the keywords on broad and if I find something which looks promising, I will put in it exact to see if I can use it.

EDIT: One more question, do I also have to check the Adwords value tab to see if I can make some sales or is this value not important?

after you get your potential keywords, you should use the SEO competition tab for each one of them, in order to find out, how hard is to be in the first page, if there are more than 6 sites with less than 100 backlins to the page (not domain) i will go for it.
