While shortcuts & loopholes exploited have risks associated with them it's not necessarily the only reason.

I think some sites would benefit from white hat only. I’ve done some SEO for a friend who is a realtor and I try to stick with only white hat techniques. I don’t want associated with someone’s name getting blacklisted from Google. Other blogs I have it doesn’t matter as much and the benefits of black hat are worth it

Let me stop you there, this is simply not true, we dont live in a perfect world

and many of us do some un honest work to get ahead faster.

Even if you DONT, google will still hit you while trying to fight against

the people trying to game the system. The problem is, gaming the system works

so the real people at a disadvantage are the ones fully leaving everything up to chance.



Who would you rather be, the honest person that grows their site from

0 users per month to 50000 in a year, just for a google update to knock you down to

10 000 users in a month?

Or the dishonest user who grows from 0 to 1 000 000 users per month and google knocks them

down to 100 000 users per month in the same update.

An update to the google algo is just something black hatters need to get around,

but the same update would mean almost nothing to white hatters because google

doesnt give good information on helping yourself.

So while you can keep making "great content" or whatever the heck that means.

Others out there will be taking every single tiny advantage they can muster and adding it all together.

If you buying links it's consider blackhat, most people buy links that wants to rank quickly. Not much I can say, you got to ask specific questions, if you want specific answers.
