Expired Domain Choice

Have already made my choice, but I thought this might be an interesting question

You have a choice between 2 expired domains, both high PA/DA, solid RDS, and within 1-2 points of each other on all stats, both with decent Moz scores, both match your niche.

Domain #1 has 84k backlinks, but has a Spam score of 9%
Domain #2 has 25k backlinks with a clean Spam score

Which would you choose? Or ... would you take both?

Domain one because it's probably stronger and spam scores are nonsense for the most part. 9% is not much anyway.

But if you can, take them both, yes.

the number of backlinks don't tell me anything, it's the number and quality of RDs that matter, so I need to know those

But given how many backlinks they have yeah, you can get them both if they're like $20-30 or so

EDIT: oh, and there's also the (very high) risk of those domains being penalized because such "good" domains don't slip through the fingers of domainers if they're so good, so yeah, you need to account for this, too...

tazarbm is right, if you found these domains through websites that show expired domains there is a big chance these are spammed out domains and are not worth anything
make sure to check them with wayback machine

These days it's getting way too hard to find clean expired domains that haven't been clapped out with gambling or viagra churn and burn websites at some point.

And as previously mentioned the domainers grab them quickly and immediately post them on sites like Dan.com or the hundreds of other "premium" domain sales pages for thousands of dollars. Kinda getting out of hand at this point

But if you did your due diligence and lucked up congrats man, plus for what you paid it's probably worth the risk to take them off the market until you can dig deeper.

This. I did some quick & dirty checks, RDs, backlink toxicity, and so on. Basically a couple of lattes in $, so even if I dig deeper and they're crap, not a huge loss.

Archive.org check to see the domain's past use is very important, as someone mentioned and, as I think you said, you didn't do. That should tell you right away if the domain has been used for bad purposes in the past. Curious what the results of that check turn out to be.

Consider your goals and resources. If you're up for cleaning the backlink profile, Domain #1 might offer more potential due to its higher backlink count. Domain #2 is a safer bet if you prefer a cleaner start. Taking both could work if you can manage them effectively.

Consider RDs instead of backlinks. You might have 100 backlinks from one same domain, that won't make a difference.

Given how good they seem I think they're penalized but I pray for you that they're not

And yeah, SS is a useless metric... at least when it's this low. If it's in the 80+ it might tell a story, but otherwise you should ignore it...

I'd go with Domain #2 because it has fewer backlinks, but they are of better quality and don't have any spam issues, making it a safer and more reliable choice for your niche

Domain #2 would be my choice , since it is being safe and reliable with few backlinks

See, you have to analyze the backlinks manually. Check which one has the most authoritative backlinks and the most diversified backlink profile.

As an update, domain #1 was hot trash. Steaming, hot, lava covered trash

Domain #2 turned out well. Not prime real estate, but worth the small amount I spent.

If i had to pick one, it would be Domain #1
I've seen 10%+ spam score for sites that are doing really well in the SERP
Trash metric tbh
