I though I would see if I could make a site and get it to the top for a local keyword search. The keyword gets about 1,200,000 results and most of the top sites are yellowpages or crappy PR0 blogs.

So I got a domain, City-keyword.com, and wrote a few articles for it. Put these articles on ezines, squidoo, digg, and got a few backlinks for the site. I watched the site move up to about the 25th page but now it just kind of hangs there. The site is about 2 months old now.

Any other things I should be doing? I'm thinking I should just start getting tons of backlinks for my buffer sites?

Don't see your site...

I remember there are videos on this exact thing in the download area. Do a search I bet you will find what your looking for.

you have to optimize your listings to the max and then build up reviews and citations

Two months is not enough time. These kind of listings it has a lot to do with the domain age.

Are you talking about normal serps but for a local search term, or the Google local results? If you are talking about Google local results the best site I've come across fro ranking factors for this is here:
