Hey all,

I am sure some of you are already aware of the change IG made to limit everyone to only sending one DM to a person without being accepted to be able to send more. My business had a high ROI on follow up messages to our initial message we send to potential clients, however now that's not possible. I was curious if anyone who has access to the new Meta Verified program could answer a couple questions I had. First of all, I assume this one is a no, but is there any chance being verified allows you to send more messages? Secondly, does the paid verification still allow you to be prioritized as far as notifications go? If I am unable to send follow up messages, it might be worth my time to pay for the verification if it works similarly to how Twitter (used to) work, where they will get a notification, or something more noticeable when being messaged by a verified account.

If any of you have had similar struggles and have other solutions outside of this altogether, I would be much appreciative of any tips or tricks that may be out there.

Thanks for yall's time!

That sounds like a bug more than a feature to be honest. That's an insane rate limit to only be able to send a single message like that. They're going to get tons of complaints from normal everyday users over that. Lots of people message companies, celebrities, influencers, new friends, etc and the idea that they'd only be able to do that once until and/or unless the company or celeb or w/e accepts the message request seems pretty crazy. I really don't see that lasting very long.

I could see them letting verified accounts send more though. I'm not saying that you will be able to for sure but if I had to guess, you probably would.

I very much hope you're right but worry that it might not happen that way... If it does revert then that would solve these issues haha, still, in the meantime I need to see what I can do to compensate for the awful changes

has this been implemented to you? I heard that it's coming, but hasn't happened to my business yet

Yup on my business account and personal it seems like, interesting I thought they finished the rollout

Interestingly enough... I just made a fresh account, and I can send multiple DMs on it... but not on my business or personal account? Maybe it's due to it still being rolled out?

what was the limit ? hard limit

Im not sure what you mean, but the change they're making is unless your message request is accepted you can only send the one initial message - thats it

Yes, this is made on my accounts as well. What I observed is its there on some accounts and its not there on the others. And the first message you can send cant even include pictures anymore, you can send them only after the invitation is accepted

Seems very strange - the completely random account I literally just made can send multiple messages, I would think they would roll this out to new accounts first to combat spam??? Makes zero sense to me...

Yep, it should be made to new accounts actually, not the ones which are grown and well established, lol

So insane... Have you found a viable strategy to cope with the changes - or do you not really need cold DMs haha

When you do cold dm's, it should be simple with small paragraphs, catchy and should offer something, then once the invitation is accepted we can send other things by making a text sequence. So even if its invite only then I dont think it affects a lot, I still do cold dm's, which goes to invitations and still get replied to it. It depends on your message copy and what you are offering.

Yeah, we still get replies luckily, but we got a lot of traffic from simply doing a basic "Following up on this when you get the chance!" and that often ends up converting. I think people don't look in their message requests very often so a lot of the time the notification is what gets them to even look. We still get replies and I believe we have a decent opening message, but the lack of ability to be able to just bump the message has definetly caused some strain unfortunately...

The update messed up a lot of method. Best of luck as you create your new approach. Maybe comment "following up on my DM" on their post

No, it's a feature. Just go on instagram and try to message anyone outside your following circle.
I have seen this on my personal profile for like a month now.

It's definitely not. If you read the thread you'll see the OP created a completely brand new random account and was able to message multiple people just fine. They aren't going to roll out a new anti feature and start with established/aged accts with higher trust scores. Lol. It's either a bug or a footprint that's flagging you guys.

It is a feature, I was also once able to message multiple people just fine, now I am not.

I suspect it is a segmented feature they are testing to limit harassment. Regardless, it is real. See below
