He's killing Twitter just in time for the election year cycle. Nobody will pay to use social media for basics. Yeah, we pay for Blue, but for most of us that was essentially to verify our accounts, nothing more, since the old guard exploited that. Meta followed suit as well.

Charging businesses $1k a month should already be making him in millions (if not billions) in revenue.

When everyone has to pay, the user base will plummet sharply. With lesser userbase, will businesses continues continue their gold subscriptions? I doubt so..

Definitely not a good decision IMO.
But hey, he is Elon, he is the richest man on planet Earth, with all sorts of intelligence people at his disposal.
