Best domain 'type' for an Ai site?

So I'm building my first Ai site after months of work and am now working on the URL/Domain portion.

I understand the basics of how buying an expiring domain would be beneficial over a "fresh site", but just trying to understand the different weights n stuff on what pushes the needle.

Let's say I'm interested in creating a site solely on "golf club handles". There are loads of golf websites on Godaddy Auctions that are Expiring, 10+ years, and have 0 bids. Obviously these domains are either spammed to hell, or have 0 backlink power.

Are these aged, non-expired domains with no backlinks much better than a fresh domain? Or is it strictly the backlink history that makes these domains worthwhile when ramping the sites back up?

it's the backlinks that give power to a domain, not the age. At least not the age of the domain, the age of the content might be important (I'm still unsure about this and the opinions are mixed anyway).

Also the consistency and cleanliness, if the domain had not changed niches (especially totally different niches like... I don't know... golf and cats, for example, or recipes and tetris, etc... basically totally unrelated niches, closely related niches is Ok) and had not been used for any of the grey / black hat niches (porn, warez, drugs, gambling, etc) then it's a good domain and you don't need to worry about its age. But the backlinks are still the best thing about getting expired / not yet expired domains, so you might still want to choose a domain with some good RDs over a fresh one if you have the chance and money

I think age is a factor, in some cases... For example, I have this one domain from 2003, that never dropped/expired - that is a key too. It always gets indexed fast, even with a poor backlink profile, but never was used for PBN or other crap, I just got it, because it's brandable.

If you go for an Auction domain, consider the backlink profile first then check other factors - niche, age, etc.
Also always check Archive.org to see if it was used for PBN in the past...

If the domain has no backlinks i wouldnt go for it because there is still a chance it was penalized by Google in the past.

if it has good backlinks and the price is good, yes

Backlinks for sure. But if they're so valuable, chances are they won't list it for dirt-cheap prices.

I'm referring to domains without any backlinks or very few. I'm trying to compare a fresh domain to one that's been aged and not spammed.
