Hi everyone,

Does not adding content to your site for a long period of time (several months) affect SEO ?

I've had an ecommerce website for 1 month, and the problem is that I've already added all the products in my niche. If I leave my site like that from an on-site point of view, and I don't add anything new for several months, will this affect my ranking?

I know that "fresh content" is important from the point of view of indexing a site's pages, and for hot queries.

But apart from that, what's your view on the matter?

Thanks ;)

no, that would be silly :)

you're thinking of your ecom site as a blog, which is incorrect. Google can differentiate between types of websites, so it's not going to penalize your ecom site for not updating it with content like you'd do with a blog. At least I think so, I'm not totally sure that this is accurate, it's just what makes most sense to me...

I would say, Adding new and useful content to your website regularly can help your SEO. So, try to update product descriptions or create helpful blog posts to keep your site active and improve your online presence.

I have seen lots of pages from the early 2000s still rank in top 3 for competitive keywords.
So you should not worry about it.

Why not add a blog in your ecommerce site and keep posting few articles regularly? I have experienced that if the site is idle for a long time the traffic declines. So the activities (small or big) should be kept going on. Keep publishing articles or edit old ones, keep sharing them on social media.

I am not saying it will reach to the top of SERPs, but your site will stay fresh and that is what Google loves.

the relevant content is key to success whether old or new. Google give value to the relevancy. If new content is not relevant, it won't help to rank the site on search engines. Apart from above facts, please note sometimes a specific niche has a more relevancy with new set of info e.g. Tech whereas same may not be true for other niche e.g. History. You may just assume that Google crawler is a common sense machine.

Yes, maybe I can try to post some blog posts sometimes, to keep my website "fresh", good idea.

Yes, not adding new content to your ecommerce site for several months can have an impact on SEO, since search engines prefers fresh and relevant information, and so regular updates can help maintain and enhance your rankings over time.
