I bought a domain at auction with over a thousand backlinks. I added it to the web search console about 2 months ago, and so far the Links area appears empty, no links were found.

Could it be that the previous owner transferred the domain to another before it expired and therefore lost all the backlinks?

The backlinks continue to exist in the name of my website, but I find it strange that the web search console is not locating the links.

What can it be ?

GSC can take months to update the backlinks, so don't stress over it! And besides, it won't show you more than 1000 links anyway, if you have a domain with 1000s of backlinks you're not going to see them all in your GSC :)

Just use a tool like Scrapebox (if you have it) to check whether the links actually exist and you'll be better off than using GSC

what?? :)

In GSC Go to -> Settings -> Change of Address

You will see this screen:

Here we inform Google that one domain/site is changing to another.

If the previous site owner did this before the domain expired. Have all the backlinks been attributed to each other? And that's why no backlink appears on mine

that's not how backlinks work...

If the expired domain had backlinks pointing to it those backlinks will keep pointing to that domain until they get removed. Just because the previous owner of the expired domain might have - hypothetically - redirected this domain to a different one doesn't mean that its backlinks have been directed too.

As I said in the previous message, GSC can take months to update (I've had a backlink showing up in my GSC after 7 months for one of my past sites), so you need to be patient. Or - like I said earlier - buy Scrapebox and have 100% control and insight into what's happening to your backlinks / sites. SB is such a powerful and complex tool to have, much better than GSC when it comes to backlink analysis...

Thanksss :))

I regretted buying this ScrapeBox, 100 dollars for not being able to use it, as I need to pay for the MOZ API to obtain the information. What's the point of this software then?

Have you checked what SEMRush says?

Google Search Console shows about 37% of the links that Google Search Console does for my main site.

scrapebox does have the reliability to do the job better .
