Be Careful About Using Oracle Cloud Free Tier !!!

I saw people warn about using the Oracle free tier and thought they were exaggerating, until it happened to me.

They shut down my VPS for "Abusive Activity". Here is the full email:

Oracle has received notice of or detected unusual and potentially harmful activity originating from your tenancy.

Traffic Details: Crypto or Cyber-Currency Coin-Mining Activity

Under your agreement with Oracle, you are responsible for the maintenance and security of this resource. We have determined that there is a significant threat to the functionality, security, integrity, or availability of our services, including violations of the Oracle Cloud Acceptable Use Policy, and your resource(s) has been disabled.

I was only hosting some WordPress websites, and I have no mining activity (I hope that using nulled plugins is not the reason!).

The problem is that I don't have any backups of the websites (big mistake!), so I lost them.

I can't ask for support because apparently, they shut down my account as well.

What I'm trying to say is use their free tier for only non-important websites, and always make backups for your website (I think there are some WordPress plugins that can automatically make a backup of your website periodically and then send it to your Google Drive.).

It's a free shared vps instance. There are cpu limits you have to adhere to because c'mon, it's a free service.

Maybe your db wasn't tuned for low cpu/memory consumption or your WordPress sites was getting some heavy traffic which surged (100% usage) the shared cpu longer than their free-tier agreement or you actually had a nullef plugin that was mining crypto on the free vps behind your back.

Goes without saying that you shouldn't be using free resources for business that makes you money.
