That the choice of a good domain is very important is one of the few certainties, the second is that almost certainly the domain we would like has already been taken.
The best would be to have one or two words that have to do with the niche, in a .com domain but this is not always possible.
Let's say you wanted a domain like "videogames.com", but it's already taken at that point would it be better to focus on the same words but with a different TLD? (for example "videogames.fun")
Or is it better to try to have a .com? And in that case is it better to use hyphens (for example "video-games.com") or add extra words? (for example "topvideogames.com")
In some cases it may make sense to use a word that has nothing to do with it to create a brand identity? (for example "paradisegames.com")
Personally, I like domains that are easy to remember, so I prefer those that don't have hyphens, and are composed of complete sentences, and I like .com domains because users trust these domains more, even if there are new interesting TLDs .
So I personally would choose this order in buying a domain if I wanted to choose a gaming-themed domain:
1) myvideogames.online (different TLD)
1) bullvideogames.com (.com identity brand)
3) myfavouritevideogames.com (.com, extra words)
4) my-video-games.com (.com, hyphens)
For the first position, I am very undecided.
To make the examples look more real, all the domains above are really free, clearly I don't care to register them since mine is just an example.
