Competing with trustpilot, ideas wanted

My partner discussed an idea with me a few days ago.

He wants to setup a platform like trustpilot where individuals review companies.

What are the best ways to gain entry into this kind of market.

Can one really compete with trustpilot.

Any ideas will be appreciated

Lot of these so called partners are on something, meds, drugs, you catch the drift. Learn to make the decision independently.
For a review site you need to have an angle that's not already there to quickly brake into that market.

He has an initial budget of $50k, that's definitely not infinite money.

I have been redirected to that site everytime I search for a company review. In my own opinion it is likely to be a tough one.

That’s not a bad budget to get started. You can build something like trustpilot, at least the main functionality using webflow. We helped a client built a local review site using purely on webflow.

Trustpilot is a publicly traded entity that had a constant negative balance sheet.

Your chances of competing with them are close to zero. If you want to knock off their business model, you need lots of funds, and $50k won't cut it.

There are many who have had the same idea but nobody really has made it happen.

I don't remember the site but (maybe it was reviews.io) what they did was when they opened their platform then they stole all companies and reviews from Trustpilot 1:1

They just crawled their entire site, took the data, and mirrored it on their website. At the same, they ran a cold email campaign to all these businesses that were knocked off and basically let them know that they now have another profile "somewhere" and their score.

It's a legal blackmailing letter basically announcing that you either start paying us or things get worse because most companies (I tend to believe) have sorta negative track record.
