I'm in need of some advice. I had a website that I was hosting through linode hosting. Unfortunately, I forgot about my auto debit and due to that, the hosting company deleted my site. This has caused a major issue - my site had around 1000-2000 posts and now in Google Search Console I'm seeing around 15,000 crawl errors like 404, Server error (5xx).

When the site was deleted, all the pages returned 404 errors, which Google has picked up on. I'm really worried this is going to severely impact my site's search engine rankings and traffic.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation before? What can I do to recover from this? My main concerns are:

  • Getting Google to stop showing all these crawl errors
  • Rebuilding my site while preserving as much SEO value as possible
  • Preventing a drop in search rankings
  • Recovering any lost traffic
I'd greatly appreciate any advice you can offer! I'm open to changing web hosts and rebuilding my site on a new host, but want to make sure I handle this properly. Let me know if you need any other details about my situation. Thanks in advance for your help!

Unless you re create those exact URLs in your website, the errors will not go away and this will be a bad sign for Google. They will reset the domain just like a fresh one and you will have to start from the beginning.

You want a fresh start and not lose ranking?
How will you maintain a position for an article you no longer have?

Almost all pages are deindexed due to the long time site down. I have extracted some articles from the archive.org but i will need so much work as the images are not present there.

Too many issues. You should take backup of your articles and start your website from scratch again. Better be working with a new domain IMO.

Start another fresh website from scratch. It could cost you too much money to fix the problem.

301 redirect all 404 to homepage or a specific page.

Can be done with htaccess or wp plugin.

If you want fresh restart then just forget about those error.

just redirect all not found pages to homepage.

What kind of redirections i should do ?
301, 307,302, or something else?
use permanent redirection as these pages are not going to back, add custom 404 error page and redirect your expired pages to them.
