So two hours ago, while I was working, I suddenly saw a bunch of push notifications on my phone...Apple tried to take money off my credit card multiple times within two minutes. Personally, I didn't purchase anything and there was no renewal. It was the exact same credit card that is also linked to my Apple ID. First, it was 2x $1.99. Then 2x $25. Then Apple tried to take $50. All of this within 2 minutes. I logged in to my bank and deactivated online transactions for this credit card, so another purchase couldn't be made.

Then I tried to investigate who made these purchases. All I see is "Apple.com/Bill" and the $ amount. This means, the person used the App Store to make purchases. I don't see what has been purchased, name or what Apple ID/email has been used. Also on my iPhone and on Apple.com, it didn't show any purchase history. I didn't buy anything, Not at this time, not for this amount of money. I didn't receive any email, receipt or anything.

So, I contacted the chat support on Apple.com, asked them if they could confirm Apple made the charges, etc. They did confirm someone made purchases and they offered me to refund all the money and to "ban" the credit card, so it can never be used again by anyone

But here it gets interesting. I asked them: Who made these purchases (Email/Apple ID, name) What did this person buy? From what country is the Apple ID?

Their answer: We can't tell you for security and privacy reasons.

Apple is literally the only one who knows who made these purchases and literally tried to steal money from me. Even though their platform has been used to steal money from me, they are protecting this person and not telling me any information due to "security" and "privacy" reasons. Means, I can not even take legal actions. I won't know who wanted to steal from me. It is quite paradox interesting, because I am a victim of a crime and suddenly they talk about privacy and security

What is your opinion on that? Who is in the right? Don't I have the right to know who abused my credit card or what has been purchased?

I think it's not only Apple that's doing it , other companies also don't share any info if something happens.
In my opinion you have to know who did so u can protect yourself.

By the way, they know who did it. The Apple Support told me they see what account purchased it and what has been purchased. Yet, they won't tell me. I mean, they won't even tell me what the person bought.

I do understand and agree they shouldn't easily give away information. But in this case, it is a crime. Someone added my credit card to their account and used Apple to make purchases, but Apple won't tell me who it is. I think they have a responsibility to let the victim know who actually stole from them. No?

What about if you go to a phisic apple shop?

My uncle had an apple pay wallet and he got charged 20USD for no apparent reason one day.

Go to police with police warrant things might be diffirent

Your card is compromised. So, firstly, inform your card issuer that your card is compromised and has been misused for fraudulent purchases.

I think the day you will ever know about is NEVER. Although as a customer you have the right to know and I feel you are in the right to ask the questions you have in your mind, sometimes we just cannot push things beyond a certain limit unless of course you have the funds to take them to court and get a magistrate order to compel the company in unveiling the truth.

I find it hard to believe that a company worth 2.83 trillion $ would steal a measly $50~.

I did that. Deactivated all online transactions, contacted Apple, then cancelled the card and will receive a new one.

This is actually quite interesting, because I believe you are right.

Just for understanding: On my credit card statement/transaction it only (!) says Apple.com/bill and the amount of money. It doesn't say anything else, not even a reference number. So, only Apple knows who actually, legitimately, made the transaction and what has been purchased. Therefore, the only way to find out who stole from me, is Apple.

But I also have to say: I used the Live Chat Apple Support. The guy chatting with me was Indian (I saw from his name). I am pretty sure he doesn't have the power to just give-away information. Tomorrow, I will call with the German support, and they can just connect me with a person in a higher position. Very interesting to see how this will play out.

I am not saying they stole it, of course they didn't do it. 0 chance. But someone used their platform (App Store) to use my credit card and they won't tell me who it was or what the person bought, even tho they can exactly see it.

Maybe your card issuer can see more details about the transaction? Maybe they can shed some light, who knows?

Okay guys, so I just had a call with the German Apple Support. They won't give information away, good news for scammers. They even protect them. He also said literally anyone can create an Apple ID with any random name, add the credit card and purchase something. The only way I could get my hand on the information of the person who did this is by getting the German police involved, which has direct contact to Apple and can get information they want if they request it.

I think you will be able to get more info from your credit card company. What is the country etc.

Contacted them already. Basically, all they see is that someone purchased something through Apple. What exactly got purchased and from who, only Apple knows.
