How to update blog posts?

How exactly should I be updating my blog posts?
Do I just click on republish on WordPress while changing the publish date and re submit the URL to GSC ?

Do I add more contents and headings to the post?

Or change the featured images alone?

Or add related keywords before republishing?

First thing: why you should be updating posts?

You should not be updating many of them. There is evergreen content that doesn't necessarily need updates.

Sometimes we waste time on things instead of investing it on a better purpose.

Do Not Republish without changing content. Always republish when you need to change some content.

But do not do this. It will not make any difference.

Instead, try to add some more value in the article by adding a paragraph of important knowledge in the existing article. Make sure you do not delete the existing content if that is ranking already and has good traffic. Use common sense while adding the relevant content wherever needed only. Adding more images with alt tags is also a good idea. Include / embed videos to update the posts wherever needed.

I also keep manually editing old posts in my site occasionally with new content to make the content more relevant and keep the site updated.

First, enable redirection, in case of a change URL
Update content and title but make sure not to change the URL
interlink, add more content, photos or data
Use update in title and few words like recent, in 2023 etc.

This will guild google on this updated content and treat it differently, secondly monitor the search console for errors.

The best way to update blog posts is to add more content and headings, change the featured images, and add related keywords. Once these changes are completed, you can then click “republish” on WordPress, and update the publish date and resubmit the URL to Google Search Console.
