How does Reddit rank communities in search results?

Let's say I create a new subreddit for widgets. How do I get my subreddit to rank higher in the Reddit search results when someone searches for widgets?

It looks like Reddit wants the keyword in the subreddit name & favors sites with more subscribers, but it seems other factors are used. Any ideas?

Reddit search is a broken mess.. No idea how it ranks but probably the more subs you have the higher it ranks.

I have seen it matches words very often.

So if you type images you will se r/image or r/images
same goes for profiles
same goes for subreddits
same goes for posts

It's likely proprietary but it will mostly be based on user interaction with posts.

Subscriber count may factor in, but is much more easily manipulated than running all of the above for a 30 day period.

It's mostly post popularity (upvotes/comments) and how recent the post was.
