How To Fix Article Ranking only on Google News

My article over a few months old is showing and ranking only on Google news and not appearing on the main search. It appeared on main search previously and then disappeared only to Google news. I've tried to boost with social signals and few backlinks but no change. How can i restore article to main Google search

It seems the keyword is competitive. You can't rank with just a few links and social signals.
Try to build more links.

In this context you could take two steps:
1. Refresh the content with more depth. Look for competitors. what they have implemented that you are not.
2. Building some more authoritative backlinks for that specific page.

After this, Wait for couple of days. If you don't get expected results then rinse and repeat.

well, its an article on a news site but other articles on same site are ranking on main search and this previously also ranked on main search before now appearing only on news search

What I'm referring to is what type you're using in your JSON-LD markup. Eg

"@type": "Article"

or

"@type": "NewsArticle"

The NewsArticle type will mainly be limited to Google News.

It's an article site, third party, they have other articles on main search, the one I'm talking about ranked on main search after publishing but is now restricted to news section.

It will happen when article quality is not good so focus on good high quality content it will be fixed soon.
