Open AI may go bankrupt by 2024. They spend about $700k a day, just to keep ChatGpt going. The cost does not include other Al products like GPT-4 and DALL-E2. Right now, it is pulling through only because of Microsoft's $10 billion funding.

Nothing close to GPT4 yet, but open source is catching up. The closest thing would be LLAMA, the better the model the higher computing power you will need though.

There isn't any that comes close to GPT4 (you can't run that on home hardware anyways) but Llama2 fine-tuned for specific tasks will perform better than gpt3.5 on most cases.

You can run Llama and Llama2 12b models fairly performantly on consumer cards with quantized and optimized models.

90% of the $1 million a day is spent on hardware / housing | Electricity | scraping / crunching the new data. Not on new chats or API calls

Is $700k/day that much more than the burn rate of other big tech in the early days? I read that FB was estimated to be close to that.

Venture capital is a lot more scarce now, but I don't think it will dry up for AI, it's too powerful. The U.S. government has shown that it considers AI a strategic asset based on the current moves against Chinese influence in that sector.

Llama-2 sux big time, well, the 13B version I tried. the 70 is ok, but I heard you cannot run it on consumer GPUs.

Claude(non-local) is the next thing that can give GPT4 a run for its money, but the API is only for .com
