Well you're either making gains or you're not. And if you are then what did you do to achieve those gains. It doesn't take rocket science to understand what I meant.
Firearms niche. Keywords have been all over the place. One day rank 1 the next is rank 80. Same keyword will go to 3 then lose the keyword for a couple days and be back 1 again.

There could be a lot of underlying reasons as to why you are experiencing dwindling rankings.
So the first thing you need to do is content audit, On-page audit ( technical audit included), and then backlink audit.
Most of the times, it is because of Spam-backlinks, unnatural backlink profile not supporting the DR of the site, or doorway pages, or thin content.
If none of the above is true, then I will have to check your complete website architecture to understand why Google thinks you are far from matching the user-intent of your perfect prospects.

Sounds like your site is still in sandbox. Keep adding content and keep ranking for more keywords.
