Never. This is pure misinformation. I've dealt with 1000's of pbns.

New links can cause a dance, but that's not a drop.

An actual toxic link google just ignores.

Think about it. If you really can hurt people with 1 link then why don't you dominate every niche in the world? Just send that link to everyone ahead of you in the serps and boom, you're winning.

The only damage you can get from low quality pbns is a manual action penalty if you've gone overboard, but even then google tend to avoid this these days as neg seo is rampant and it's so easy to just spam your competitors, report them and get them removed.

Also, there is NO such thing as a 'toxic domain'. This is another silly SEO myth.

Google doesn't have some register for toxic domains. Domains have varying levels of topical authority and juice. If a site is 'toxic', it just means that it has no juice, and a link will do nothing.

I'm even using the term 'toxic' above, but I'm meaning it in the sense of a "bad domain", not "toxic" as in some flag that google has added to a domain to make it dangerous if it links out. This would just be stupid and make neg seo way too easy.

Actually I think it was the pbn, it was bad or there was a footprint or something that made Google flag it. because it stayed on like page 8+ (or I couldn't find it) for -1.5 months (approx) and I removed it. I checked now a few weeks later and now it's on page 4.

Its just a coincidence. Neg seo is super hard. If we could “toxify” domains then link to competitors it would be so easy to destroy other sites.

Theres always dancing in the serps. Its very hard to attribute actions to movement

1 bad/good PBN won't make a difference. Seems like normal fluctuation in the big G algo.

The one thing I will add is that link building in many cases causes dancing. This is a normal part of the algorithm and it's to prevent people from connecting the dots with what works.

Imagine you could just build a link, and within 7 days you either move up or nothing. You could reverse the algorithm in a few months.

Sometimes a link takes 3 months to kick in. Sometimes I see a site move up 24 hours later.

Other times a site will DROP first, and THEN rise a few weeks later. In this case, the algorithm is actually trying to trick you into removing the link. If you build some links, then drop, then you remove the links, the drop remains. The algorithm is testing you to see if you control the links. If you leave it, your rankings then come back and often go higher. You see this more often with stronger links.

I feel so stupid reading all comments from people with knowledge in this matter, I was checking my articles rankings every 2 days and changing/adding stuff to the pages and even removed backlinks if they dropped positions

Don't remove the backlinks now. wait for 2/3 weeks then if you don't see the ranking back then take some high quality backlinks again.

check if the pbn is actually indexed, and check on ahrefs or similar tools if it has organic traffic. If it is not indexed and has 0 organic traffic then Congrats, you have been scammed.
The good news is that no matter how shitty the PBN is, I really doubt that one backlink can do a lot of harm.
