Is teaching programming a good niche?

All my latest ideas that I invested a lot of time into have come to nothing because apparently I'm not good at generating traffic and I thought I was going to do something I'm sure I'm good at, programming.

I was thinking of creating a site/blog or a YouTube channel dedicated to programming. Even if there are undoubtedly thousands, can it still be worth it? And is it better to start with a site or a YouTube channel? (in the long run, I guess it's better to have both)

Is it better to deal with a specific language or programming in general? (I personally think a particular language might be a better solution)

Is it a better choice to deal with one of the most used languages (e.g. Python) or to deal with languages that are currently less used and/or more specific? (e.g. used in game development) Thank you for your time.

IMHO i think that you should try to teach others offline like real life courses face-to-face. Online teaching is oversaturated and only small percentage can get it that way while majority is more satisfied when they have "personal" teacher and dedicated time-slots for this (have something to do with consistency and dedication)

Teaching personally is the way to go, or else teach something which is new in the market like making smart contracts, using chatgpt's API, and all of that stuff which is not saturated

A few years ago, I would have said “go for it”.
Today, it's a very saturated niche.
Nevertheless, if you want to get started, here are a few tips.
Specialize in a very specific area (language, technique, tool, whatever). For example, some people only do Excel tutorials.

You can also choose an area of IT: computer security or SEO (two ultra-competitive fields) or graphic design. I'm giving you a few ideas here and there, just so you can get the general idea.

From my point of view, rather than launching yourself into a field (Python, for example) that's already very saturated, find a niche where there are three and a half of you, with little YouTube content/blog posts.

And if I may make a suggestion: go for Drupal.

We've had a real problem with Drupal since it merged with Symfony. There's less and less documentation, fewer and fewer tutorials.

Or aim for Backdrop CMS. Likewise, we have very little documentation. There, you're sure to make a splash, you're going it alone, and you've got a real market with Backdrop CMS.

Many users won't migrate from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9/10. Too complicated, too expensive.

They'll all go for Backdrop CMS, which is based on the same logic as Drupal6/7.

And once you've got the hang of Backdrop CMS, why not offer your Drupal 6/7 → Backdrop CMS migration services?

I asked for a quote for one of my sites, and I've just about given up.

As for offline, at the moment I already have a job, so I prefer to try to carry on something online, not necessarily that would make me money right away, but at least that would allow me to create a small community that maybe later I could try to monetize somehow.

That's totally up to you but with good time management skills you can do it. I don't know where you are from but let's say that teaching hour is 10 bucks (for math's sake), if you can make 3 sessions per week that's 30 bucks/week/student - 120 bucks/month. Not much but if you can do groups that goes higher than that.

Also in this sector I am afraid that it is necessary to be much better at advertising than at knowing how to do things....

Face to face as Alex mentioned here should make good flow of cash but youtube you should consider that you can fail because is to much time consuming and need to upload everyday if you want to get a good traffic , if you`re ok with that goo on

Make a website and write articles about different libraries in python. There's limitless content opportunities thanks to the Explore feature in GitHub and many libraries have GREAT features, but their documentation is bad or there's only videos of people using Notepad to type out a tutorial.

Make a tutorial better than those guys (it's not hard), and write good blog posts exploring these libraries and over time you'll gain an audience. If I were to choose between YouTube and blog posts, I'd choose blog posts. They're easier to make and as someone who peruses this niche often, I HATE being forced to sit through a 1 minute intro, 3 minutes of filler content, 30 seconds of what I actually came there for, then another minute of sponsors, then a link to their course... you get the point (I don't blame the YouTuber for bad content, either. YouTube wants watchtime, not to satisfy a question)

And don't listen to anyone that says coding will die. ChatGPT doesn't utilize some libraries the right way and people need to know how to debug if they're going to attempt to use gpt code. Compiling, creating an installer, updating apps, all that needs to be done by hand.

This is so oversaturated and well covered. No1 will watch 3 hour teaching videos

However you should focus more on small "tips" such as how to do X thing in only 5 minutes. way easier to get popular.

There are millions of kids googling every day how to setup discord bot, yet only 1 video on youtube pops up up to date.
