Once namecheap marks a domain premium it's game over?

I see a few domains that have been marked Premium will go Premium on other sites as well besides Namecheap (obviously)

Some sites are showing "aftermarket" - Domain taken.

Is there a way to get Premium domains for a cheaper price?

Obviously, I am not talking about $10 but the Namecheap asks $14,000 and that's also a bit too much.

The domain names that are not registered but are labeled "Premium" is done by the registry, not the registrar.

It's not Namecheap deciding xyz.com is a premium domain. It's VeriSign, the registry that maintains .com that decides this. And that's how other registrars like GoDaddy same premium pricing too.

For the Aftermarket ones, you can always negotiate. Contact the owner (they will usually have a way to in their WHOIS) and start negotiating and they will usually sell it for even half the price they asked for.

I have two of these domains and now I need to pay crazy amounts x year for domains I don't use. But it's hard to let them go when you see the "premium" on them haha.

But yeah, as @Ashk881 mentioned, this comes from the registry, not the registrar, so that's why all the other places also show your domain as premium once it's set that way.

I'm not sure how this works but they all work in tandem is my best guess. Some domainer bought the domain as soon as it got expired and now it ends up as a premium domain.
The whois now shows the domain is registered with 'namebright'.

This happened to me as well with Namecheap.

The domain that got expired had no backlinks but was press release related - I think they checked the content and thought "Yeah we can mark this premium and ask $1000 for it". Fucking losers will never sell that whack-ass domain

Two types of premium domains available in market

First is aftermarket premium someone bought the domain and list it for sale in aftermarket reselling websites like sedo

sedo have sedo MLS (multi listing service) have many domain registrar partners like (namecheap) list the domain for sale

Second is registry premium, registry marks keywords they see as more valuable as premium mostly on new TLDs reserved by registry

some of those domains are priced higher and renew normal example - sml.shop
some are priced higher and renew at higher example - sml.game

price will go down only when registry drop the price

@INCC Even if shown as a standard price, when you try to renew it's a premium price. And it's not only namecheap. I have one in namecheap and one in another provider, both do the same thing.

Here's an example with my domain on namecheap, who's about to expire and not sure if I would renew again.

You can always sell it, most premiums are pretty easy to sell. Mostly one-word dictionary words etc
